Long story short, there is a park here in town called Brahan Springs Park. I had passed by it likely hundreds of times, but never actually stepped foot in it until this past November.
It features a large lake, and I would sometimes see a few Canada geese there, but nothing else waterfowl-wise. I always wondered what the deal was.
So one day, I walked there and found out why. The area of the water the ducks usually hang out in can't be seen from the roads that go by the park.
That area of the lake had a TON of ducks. I took notice of one female mallard who was mostly white but covered in black spots. As she swam to the shoreline and started walking around, I noticed she had a major limp. She instantly gained a special place in my heart, and I try to go there once a week to make sure she gets plenty to eat.
I named her "Limpy" and talked to a lady who runs a local waterfowl enthusiast group about her, and apparently, the name stuck as in a recent FB post she referred to the duck as "Limpy". I named her boyfriend that is always with her "Beau". I really like this photo, it looks like Beau is asking Limpy a question.
