Reference for Curtis Dundalk, a new character inspired by my dear friend that passed away. Because his life was full of stories, I decided to memorialize him as a character in Dirty South. I’ve changed the name to something inspired by him, but that way the story this character tells can be a something of his own. I spent a lot of time thinking about how I wanted to do that, because i wanted to tell a story adjacent to Glenn’s own life without writing a story that spoke OVER his own life.
Curtis is the owner of City Limits bar in Lavender County, a small dive with good drinks, good food, and good looking bartenders. He has Nico working as the manager, and has taken him under his wing to teach him how to have more confidence in himself as Nico had never managed anything before. Despite this, and despite the bar’s cheap prices, it seems to do fairly well. They must make money elsewhere…
Curtis is a quiet man when he speaks but passionate when he sings and plays guitar, which he’s damn good at. He’s known to get drunk off the clock and post up on a barstool singing for the patrons, who in turn buy him drinks in return for more music and stories about his life. He’s got plenty of stories to tell, too, as he’s been all over the eastern US and has tales to tell about every state. You might think you know everything there is to know about his time in Georgia, then he’ll surprise you with a totally new story.
When he’s not at work, Curtis likes to either sat at home, nude, where he watches western shows and plays games online, or sit in his pants and slippers on the porch enjoying a cold beer and a good cigar. He wears pants “only ‘cause he’s gotta”, and would much prefer to live au naturale.
Curtis is also quite intelligent despite his age, and loves to slip academic words into casual conversation. For a country man, it’s obvious he’s done a lot of reading.
He loves the ladies, and he’s known to love a fella or two now and then, and he loves a good meal served by someone easy on the eyes. It leads folks to wonder what made him hire Nico…
I’ll be writing more lore about him as time goes on, and I’ve got a story I’ll be writing as well about how Nico got the job at City Limits and how they came to be friends. Keep your eyes out for it!
