Character Description
Eris the Emotional Support Rat!
Aaron belongs to my
Personality
Brave, energetic, stubborn and impulsive. She's got a fiery passion for adventures, the more dangerous and reckless the better, and is fiercely loyal to her "master" Aaron. She's very protective of him, knowing what a vulnerable mess he is, and never hesitates to smash anyone or anything that frightens him with her extendable warhammer. Be it a mere itsy bitsy spider, or a full grown, pissed off cave troll ten times her size.
There is one thing she fears though, one single thing that makes her huddle up to her pupper for a change: thunder.
Background/History
Eris' family were neither poor nor particularly well off.
They were simple workers who managed to get by day to day through hard work, and both parents were pragmatic and stern. Expecting their children to grow up to be just as hardworking and industrious as them.
However, Eris shared none of their hardworking principles, and preferred to play with the neighborhood kids, letting her imagination run wild. She envied the adventurer families, the famous explorers who braved new worlds and fought fearsome beasts for glory and gold.
Sadly, as she was doomed to have been worn into the life of a simple worker, it appeared as if her dreams and desires were impossible. Unless she were to try and freelance, however freelancer were sadly notoriously unsuccessful due to their lack of funding, sponsors and knowledge.
Until, she happened to overhear a conversation between a pair of men from the adventuring caste at the tavern "The Golden Finch", where Eris occasionally worked as a cleaner at the young age of eight.
Apparently one of them was lamenting to the other about his only son; a fearful and anxious little thing. He was supposed to carry the torch as the next official adventurer like generations before him, but he couldn't even get past their own gardens!
An idea immediately popped up in the young girl's head, and she went to her best friend in the world, the one adult who understood her and knew all about her plight; her uncle.
Her uncle had, like her, yearned for the life of an adventurer. Until he lost his right arm and leg on his first excursion as a solitary freelancer, and would've become a snack for a wild mountain wyvern if he hadn't been saved by a proffessional.
Since then, he had been forced to settle into the life of a simple worker once more. At least, to the best of his abilities.
Eris told him what she had just overheard, and brought up her plan to him. At first, her uncle thought she was joking. Then, his amused chuckle turned into a grimace of horror once he realized that she was serious.
He refused to go through with it at first, knowing full well of the consequences it would have to himself, her and their family if things went south.
But he always had a hard time saying no to his favorite niece, and after a few days of nagging he agreed to help her.
He then approached the adventurer's guild with Eris in tow, and offered to sell her as a squire in training. A sort of bodyguard for adventurers.
Ofcourse, the petite little rat girl was initially laughed at, but she had no problems showing how truly fierce and fearless she was as she attacked one of the adventurers. A large, burly bear several times her size!
She wasn't able to harm him much, but upon being pried away from him the tone had changed in the guild to one of piqued interest. And as they had hoped, the one who approached them first was the man with the skittish son.
He "bought" her, Eris and her uncle agreed on splitting the money, and she was thusly introduced to the man's son Aaron.
He was indeed a fearful little pup, only a couple of years older than her, and she immediately felt a need to protect him from the dangers of the world.
Eris and Aaron were raised together, inseparable from one another. He studied and trained to become an adventurer, while she studied and trained to become his companion and bodyguard. Her world did come to in a way revolve around him, but she didn't mind as the promise of exploration and legendary encounters excited her.
Ofcourse, as they grew older their bond became closer and grew into something more than just that of an adventurer and his squire...
Body
She's a fit and elegant ratto with gray/white spotted markings. Her hair is black with bluish strands, and her eyes are large and dark green. Like a true rat's, her tail and paws are furless, and pale peach in color.
Her body has many visible scars from encounters she and Aaron were forced to fight their way through, but she carries them with pride and loves to show them off and brag about them.
Clothing
She likes loose clothing, yet not too loose to inhibit her movements. She typically wears her shirts open as far down as possible, a sash, pants and chaps that keep her pants from waving too much.
Accessories
pierced ears, and she's rarely seen without her weapons: a secondary dagger stuck in her sash, and her warhammer.
Her hammer is custom built for her. Its handle is made from lightweight yet hardy steel tubes and is collapsible like a telescope to make it easier for her to carry around when not in combat.
