Background/History
Memphis Topheles is a Prince of the Draconian Gargoyles of Hell, having always been born in Hell. He lived a life of royalty, and was raised as a spoiled brat who indulged moreso in drugs, women, and had his own horde of gold. However, he was more interested in his indulges, which upset his family to the point they decided to take away his status as Prince, beat him up, and sealed him away as a motionless stone Gargoyle in a mountain near Pentagram City. He was cursed that the day he is released is the day that Hell has a chance of redemption, which to them meant never.
His family celebrated his entrapment, but the party was soon ruined by a league of Exterminator Angels sent to purge the Circles of Hell, which happens yearly, leaving Memphis as the only member of his family left.
Then, a thousand years later, Charlie made her announcement on the news of a Hotel for doomed souls to get a chance to go to Heaven. As a number of gangsters sought to find the Draconic Gargoyle family horde, they were instead massacred by Memphis, who was finally freed and was extremely hungry. Exiting the cave to see the city, he realized exactly how he was freed, and scoffed at it before entering Pentagram City to see how time has changed.
However, his reappearance couldn't have come at a better time, as Alastor the Radio Demon was now searching for employees for the Hotel. Finding Memphis among a group of prostitutes verbally assaulting him for not having money, he remembers old tomes that detailed the Prince. Before the situation escalates, Memphis was teleported to the Hotel in a state of confusion. There, Alastor explained to him what's happened since he disappeared, and if he seeks to regain his footing on the hierarchy in Hell, he would need to start working here. Memphis scoffed, told him off, and went to leave, only for Alastor to show that he has leverage in this.
The reason being is that Alastor has stolen his treasure and has already put it into the hotel. Enraged at this, Memphis tries to murder Alastor, only for Alastor to swiftly take him down and knock him unconscious. When he awakes, Alastor then offers a deal. If he starts working for the Hotel, his royal status, and all the gold in Hell would be his, although, there will be a catch that Memphis might not like. Memphis accepts the deal anyway, seeing how he has no choice, now donning a bellhop's uniform instead of his royal garments. Alastor then introduces him to the other characters, and Memphis gains some special attention from Angel Dust, which Memphis disapproves of, although his blushing indicated that he liked him more than the Prince was willing to admit.
As such, life continues with Memphis now working as a bellhop. Although, Alastor reveals to the audience, that the catch is that Memphis has now become his guard dog, and someone to enforce the deals that Alastor makes with others.
Despite this, Memphis slowly starts to gain some humbility with the others, and begins to believe that there just might be a chance for them all down here. He will make sure that they get that chance at happiness, even at his own expense, which of course, the others aren't willing to have him suffer. He now has a new family.
