In the neighboring park, we see a couple of the rangers enjoying some of Shirley's muffins and sharing them to a couple of the local trouble makers.
The bighorn ram is Crayton Ford, a native of the region and one of the lead rangers for the park. Next to him is Maggie Preston, a Key deer from the Florida Keys. Though a ranger, she works mostly in the park's stores and provides tourists a first impression of the staff.
The 'trouble makers' are Specks and Blackie.
Specks is a a feral fox with a unique speckled spotted coat, which Crayton thinks comes from old dormant genes. She is awfully skinny and malnourished due to her shocking obsession with alcohol. Instead of spending the time to hunt for food, she scavenges through trash and camps for bottles of booze. She is sadly a wild animal that has become a drunk. Crayton has been studying her for a few years, and plans to write a book based on her.
Blackie might be even more odd than a drunk fox with spots.
Blackie is black squirrel from Canada. When very young, he got stuck on a food truck making deliveries to the USA. He survived on the snacks, until he was found and chased out of the trailer. Was upon jumping into the bushes of his new home that he discovered Specks, drunk but awake. No one is sure what happened or why, but Specks adopted Blackie and treated him like she would a fox kit. This resulted in Blackie having a more omnivorous diet. Adding the easy access to foods from tourists, he grew into a very big squirrel.
Crayton is fully aware of Blackie being an invasive species, but was happy to see Specks interacting with another animal and not the tourists.
