It had been a long session, to be fair, but it was a welcome one. Tower stretched from his chair once the final stroke of the pen was complete, resisting the urge to sigh in relief. Finally, after nearly twenty years... GUN had Mercia as an ally. Edward O'Hedge had been a ruthless separatist, demanding full autonomy for his own kingdom and refusing help from any outsiders. Snottingham, and most of the land around it, was still kept in an outdated state for the sake of 'purity'. But it seemed finally, the trend was broken. His own son, Robert, or as he preferred, Rob O', had ousted the tyrant after making friends with many civilians and lords and ladies. It had been a tough issue, but now the young prince had taken the throne. Despite the hardship of taking it over so quickly, he had enough assistance to handle it. At least Rob O' honored the Mercian tradition instead of being a complete oxymoron. For centuries, the royal family had a simple rule: their kings never wore shoes. It was meant to portray a sign of openness and transparency, to show comfort in their audience. It was a custom that he could respect, having left his own military issue dress shoes in his transport. The act seemed to appease the already friendly hedgehog further, and it sped negotiations well. It just took a bit of work to figure out where to build the ambassador building, and decide how the military funds would be best suited to assist Mercia's growth. But now, the deal was done, and the two extracted themselves from the desk once the contract was copied. It was a relief for the commander to clasp the youth's hand in a firm handshake, the assistant snapping a photo of the two men to cement the occasion. It would soon be nightfall, though, and while he intended to leave, Rob would be quick to offer the castle itself. There were plenty of rooms available, and the wink that followed clearly indicated Rob wanted Tower in HIS bed... Well, who could say no to that? It might be against protocol, but it just meant the job went better than expected. |
