Now listen up
You've got a lot to learn
And if you don't learn, you don't eat
But if you're tough
And always use your head
You'll feel right at home on the street
Not much separates Rita from the very rapscallions she protects her interests from.
Despite being a 'detective', her job involves very little detecting and more protection and keeping cool any situation that could threaten to heat up. The Civil War is over, and the nation's newly networked railroads are ideal for street dogs of all breeds to practice their crafty art on unsuspecting and unprepared passenger and freight trains, thanks to their expanding popularity. As the W&ARR's primary yardbull, her rules are simple enough: no freeloaders. That means robbers, hobos, and anyone else reckless enough to take their chances unlawfully boarding a train. She also will investigate derailments, collisions, assaults, vandalism, ticket fraud, and robbery.
A guard dog in the no-man's land that is the railroad yard. Friend to all, enemy to some.
I love Rita, she was such a voice of reason and still not afraid to do what needed to be done. In my W&A world, she has a story to tell, and I hope to one day tell it...
