According to what happened, the only real evidence we had was the actor portraying Danny was arrested irl, so as a result they tried to kill off the character, thinking it'd be easier to say he was dead instead of saying he went to jail. That part is speculation, but it's the best guess I can come up with.
But obviously he wasn't when they posted a new video in 2009. XD
