Long ago, I had a game called "Serpentine" where you made to pursue a blue snake around a maze, eating the back segments. Once you got the snake down to 2 segments (incl. the head)and took one more bite, it would die.It would grow if it ate, and it grew long enough, the last segment came off and became an egg.
The egg could be eaten by you and help YOU grow. App. eating an egg or killing a snake would add segs to you. My copy,a cracked bootleg one ,app. had a glitch. Sometimes an egg hatching*, the new snake would ignore the maze walls and head straight down to get stuck in the score box, and you can't get at it. I would then end the hopeless game.
Each level, it paid to eat all but one snake and then chase that other one around, eating eggs, and keeping it short. Each new level increased the speed. A ratcheting sound endlessly played. Once you grew longer than an enemy snake, that snake turned green and you could then devour it without risk. It would turn blue again -and the head deadly- if it grew longer than you again.
Each level starts with all the snakes -incl.ones that hatched- coming out again, but in a diff. maze, and faster.
* A bad egg was attached crooked, and you'd best eat that seg before it gets laid.
