A little video i did because i wanted to talk about OC's, OC creations and what happens when your OC takes over your content and community.

If you for some reason know what artist i mean, dont annoy or bother him because of it, please.
Anyways, take care.

Oh yes. Yes yes yes. This all over. I had the same thing with my renamon OC. I still use them mind you, as you can see by the icon, but on someplace that would let you like Second Life, it's amazing how many folks 'do not care' unless you have the right pixles on you.

This is an interesting topic! I'm not gonna pretend for a second any of my OCs have reached anywhere near enough popularity to suffer from the issue, but I can imagine the frustration of having what you want to make be completely overshadowed by the popular thing you also made but have lost interest in.

I will admit I have had that "okay this is cool but what about this thing you used to do a lot I liked?" feeling with some artists I enjoy, and I do feel sometimes you just have to accept that even if that thing was what brought you to someone, you have to keep yourself open to their feelings towards it and be open to accepting whatever comes next for/from them.

Yeah sure, i had some artist friends that did characters or OC's that been a massive hit in their communitys.

However, when he tried something new or different, the likes or interest dropped, until the expected content returned.
Comments like:
''Nice, cant wait to see more of the other tho!''
''When more other character?''
''Can i commission you the other character?''
been under every post of him.

While i honor and value an artists desire and wish to create what he wants, he has to accept that some characters simply put the bread on the table.
Being pidgeonholed into one certain genre or character is soulcrushing and may ruin the hobby, thats why i respect diverse content.
But what makes me really sad is, when the artist puts it on the nail in the wall. Because he didnt want to controlled by it.
The more i wish, artist would just embrace their fate.

''Looks like they love this thing, well, so be it.''
''I can make money with it, make it my brand, become it's godfather.''

While other choose the different route:

''All they care for is the character, not my art anymore...''
''I dont want to be known as the character artist, i want to be the artist of many things.''

Both are understandable, but latter makes me sad to see.

I can definitely agree with that second point. I know it was a thing when the ponysplosion happened how there were many artists switched to pretty much 100% drawing ponies. I get doing stuff of something you like, I'm biased and not gonna complain about someone doing just Sonic stuff, but it was the amount of artists and the completeness of it that was the staggering part.

Applies to OC stuff too. At least two artists come to mind that will make up cool OCs, maybe draw a few pics with them, but then go back to their primary one/commissions and never revisit that previous one again. I get there's no obligation to give all your characters equal screen time, but it sucks when there's one you like a lot that just gets dropped.
