Oh that reminds me of the 'Q-Virus', the actor for Q from Star Trek was sick at a convention once and held up the glass he was drinking from and said "Who wants to buy the Q-Virus?!" and just a load of people went nuts bidding for it. Sold it for I think several hundred dollars to donate to charity and the buyer emptied the glass right then and there. ^^;

Close. What happened was that John de Lancie, while already running a charity auction, was sick and had to leave early. After he left one of the people remaining running the auction picked up the glass and asked for bids on the 'Q-Virus' -- again, for charity -- and someone bought it. They tried to stop the buyer from actually drinking it, though, as he was indeed very sick.

Shock art has been around for much longer than that. Look at Francis Bacon's 'Screaming Popes' series in the 1950s. They were a deliberate distorted version of a real portrait of Pope Innocent X.
