Daphne's real mother had been a damsel in distress as well, but not long after she was born, she was abducted and tied to a railroad track. Daphne's father, and her mother's hero, didn't make it in time to save her. Daphne's aunt ended up taking the mothering role for the new baby girl, and they have been close ever since.
