Modern commercial jets are built to be able to fly just fine with a dead engine. unless the hydraulics were taken out by shapnel, the pilots could land it easy.

I was tempted to ask for a missing wing. Would that be better?

Though the wingtip is technically only for efficiency, losing half a wing is definitely fatal to any plane. Relevant incident:

...can we all just agree that planes are far fucking tougher than pop culture gives them credit for?

Ahh yeah I’ve listened to the cockpit voice recording of the small plane that struck the passenger airliner it’s pretty scary

The worst part is that I worked specifically on that scenario at a flight simulation company, I should have remembered that.

The worst thing that can happen to a plane without a major structural failure would probably be the elevator stopping working for whatever reason.
Smirkyguy

Or, much worse, the elevator getting stuck all the way up or down

Would you still argue this now if the plane was a "Boeing?"
Smirkyguy

as I recall, all the recent Boeing incidents have ended in successful landings.

So are they hitching a ride or keeping the plane up?

Supposed to be stopping the plane from crashing but many people have pointed out that modern planes can fly pretty well with one engine.

I kind of find the discussion funny, in that the flying dragon holding the plane up is the most believable part of it.... :P

Not just a dragon, an alien dragon whose basically Superman if he was raised in a circus.
