RE-VIEW: A Chucklewood Easter
Yes, yes---I'm aware Easter is forthcoming; I'll get to drawing at least one rabbit between now and then.

In the meanwhile...

WATCHER (on the subject of hunting for fan art): "...But on smaller fandoms like Chucklewood Critters, fanart can total two figures, three at most, and every piece may be hunted down. I have personal collections that exceed the results on ALL the big sites"

I like rarely-referenced characters, too, albeit the franchises I pick from tend to fall under the common to uncommon knowledge of furries born in the 1980s.
I was raised on Nickelodeon, Disney and PBS---all mainstream channels, so there isn't much in my head to choose from if I'm looking for genuine obscurities.
Sometimes, I'll draw from series I was aware of as a kid, despite not watching any of it (like 'Cowboys of Moo Mesa', etc).

Again, I prefer characters from shows I actually watched, though there are yet characters from those shows who rarely (if ever) see fan art made of them.
Like, what graymuzzle hasn't heard of AotLK? Yet, I'm sure (even among enthusiasts of the series) there isn't much fan art of Maki-Maki (hence I keep such characters in mind for when I become desperate for a subject).

For today's ACO subject, I've picked from a fairly well-remembered series: 'The Littl Bits'.
I wanted a Littl Bits character who wasn't given much spotlight to. Granted, there are many, but I had a specific one in mind.

So, on that note, I wanted to first see what I couldn't see...

Hm...

(as of 04/14/2022):

"Snuffly" "No submissions..." (InkBunny)

"Snuffly" "snuffly: found in 51 documents" (FurAffinity)

Nothing relevant...

"Snuffly" "10.8K results" (DeviantArt)

*perused through first 30 pages under 'Most Recent', (the earliest of which dates 'Jan 31, 2020', with no relevant results to that point*

Bear in mind I filter mature art from FA and DA, so someone else might've had different luck. ^^

I got similar results searching for 'Snuffley' ...nothing!

I also tried a search using Japanese text, "モンド" and "モンド ファンアート' and '森の陽気な小人たち ベルフィーとリルビット モンド' via Google Images*

I'd found screenshots, but I don''t count those. :P

FINALLY, after searching for 'Belfy' under DeviantArt, I found some fan art of the character, under the 'Most Recent' search. The upload was dated 'Oct 29, 2017' ...well over four years ago, as of writing.

The result:  https://www.deviantart.com/azazello-kun336/art/The-Litt...

In conclusion, while fan art DOES exist of Snuffly, the subject isn't drawn every day ...so, I volunteered a few minutes of my time to draw the character ...for the 0.04% of the population that wants more art of him.

That said, after a few practice sketches, I lost interest ...but I (obviously) uploaded one of the sketches, anyway. ^^

HYPOTHETICALWATCHER: "I'm glad someone is drawing these characters---they need love, and art of some seldom comes up. But you know what I hate?
You know what gets under my skin and pinches my nerves every time I think about it; every time I'm surprised to see a new result under an obscure character's tag?"

What?

HYPOTHETICALWATCHER: "The fact that it's often you who drew it. You, IceAgeChippies---someone who can just barely draft a stick figure. YOU!
I hate that most of the time it's you drawing these characters. I really and truly deplore it with all my deplore"

Thx! Glad you like! :D

Anyway, Snuffly is from 'The Littl Bits': an anime I used to watch on NickJr, along with Maya the Bee, AotLK and Noozles. :3

A great chuck of 'The Littl Bits' series may be enjoyed here (link tested 04/14/2022): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOTkSU_e4tHVu3KV...

Snuffly, of course, has his own episode: 'Earthquake'. It should be #20 on the above-linked list (if memory serves).

HYPOTHETICALWATCHER: "Ah, you mentioned Noozles! Please draw Sandy Brown on the beach (clothing optional)---bonus points if you include a popsicle (and don't hold back on the blushing!)"

Uh, no; not happening. I wouldn't draw that anyway, but I'd certainly not draw anything for you after what you said a minute ago.

HYPOTHETICALWATCHER: "I hate you more now"

<3

But on a serious note, I do the best I'm willing to do with these art cards.

I'm not an ex-Disney animator; I'm not a young, ambitious person who's devoted his life to cartooning. I'm just an uneducated 40-something sitting in a disorganized room with empty beer bottles and pencil stubs everywhere (some in the strangest of places!).
I do not, and never will, hold an art degree. I've never had any lessons and don't think it's worth it to undertake any.
I don't want anything from my art, neither do I accept anything for it---I just draw because I feel like it. My choice to draw a great variety of characters comes the fact I upload my scribbles to the internet (and, over time, others responded to them). That's all.

TL;DR: I'm just an asshole with a human attached, drawing characters no one cares about, with pencils rescued from the trash. If you want quality, I'm not your guy (I never claimed to be, moreover). :3

Why do you watch me, anyway?

HYPOTHETICALWATCHER: "I like how you draw animal toes"

I have nothing to reply to that. :P

...Pencil.

I had a difficult time choosing a suitable pencil for Snuffly.

I thought of featuring a pencil from Acorn Pencil Co., because squirrel ...but those pencils are scarcer than Snuffly art. ^^;

I thought of the 'Bourbon' from Mallard, because Snuffly (in the anime) looks like he's either had a drink, or needs one ...but that's too loose a connection (and would more properly belong to Snoozeabit). :p

So, instead, I opted to feature the 'Glider' from Mallard Pencil Co ...because Snuffly is a flying squirrel. ^)^

...and as I have a few of these 'Glider' pencils, including a sharpened one, I decided to ...not use it to make this practice sketch! :D
But, fear not---I did some swatches and some writing with it, to test it out. :3

The 'Glider' produces a soft, dark line with a fairly smooth drag. The line hasn't too much dotting, and will erase (more or less) cleanly.
I'd describe it as a good, albeit school quality pencil, best suited for writing. :3

You really oughta ditch these hyopthetical wathers, I don't like their tone and I don't think they contribute to a dialogue.

Also congrats on doubling the fanart of a character. 'Tis a rare thing to do.

Mine's really only the second? :o

lol The Hypothetical is, alas, a necessary evil. :3

I've not located any other bar what you have found. It is possible there is more, but if a fan piece is not acessible then it does not live. A painting locked in the basement of some dusty museum exists only as a number on an iteniary, it is at best dormant and at worst dead.

This is why tagging is important.

Mhm.

I admit, too, I searched only the three major sites mentioned. I didn't bother with e621 and so forth, and, well ...who uses Weasyl, etc? lol Certainly no one who doesn't already upload elsewhere.
zfqfmb
2 years, 7 months ago
I run through weasyl, sofurry (Whose text editor is monstrous) gelbooru, furbooru, FA, IB, DA, AMA, Newground, Pixiv, and Aryion. If it's not on those sites it's not anywhere. (Occasionally some of the obscure sites have hidden gems, or entire fandoms. Pixiv for example is about the sole source of Okojo fanart.)

Why do you collect fan art?
zfqfmb
2 years, 7 months ago
For two reasons. Firstly because it's so much easier than people think. There's around 150K separate pieces of Zootopia fanart out there, one of the larger fandoms. Each piece averages about 1MB so the whole fandom can be stored on a single hard drive. There are tools letting you download the entirety of e621, IB and such's fandoms in as long as it takes your bandwdth. (So everything Zootopia off of IB in a few hours.) There's no great expense, it's less taxing than comissioning art of a character.

Second, it fulfils my collecting needs, espescially the desire for completeness. I cannot have every pokemon card but I CAN have every Buttons & Rusty artwork. I rule over my little fifedoms with mathematical coolness.

I could stick a pencil in a harddrive, but neither would be true again after. ^^

Huh... well I DO suppose they count as playthings, though they too were foxes once, long ago...
FoxyIbLover

*looks confused* "But this is a fox dolll, what do you mean it once was a fox?"
zfqfmb
2 years, 7 months ago
Now it's made mainly of LDPE and rayon. Not like the old days when people still used fox leather. It doesn't really count as vulpine.
FoxyIbLover

FoxyIbLover

I collect pictures of pencils too! 😝

I figured as much. 'There's a fox that's got wood' I always said.
FoxyIbLover

Yup, an impressive amount too. You should put it on tinder, wood makes for GREAT tinder.

Yes Chippy, you go and behave yourself now. Draw a nice Easter picture!
IceAgeChippies
2 years, 7 months ago
I want to ...I NEED to.

Problem is I have failed to uphold my word to review a particular movie before any other ...and now it's Easter, and I want to review the Buttons and Rusty Easter special (I have reviewed their other holiday specials---Easter is the last one!).

Now, I know that literally NO ONE cares----not a soul would say a negative word to me if I wrote about the Easter special first ...it's just the principle of it. :(
FoxyIbLover
2 years, 7 months ago
To whom did you give your word? Did you watch the special? If you really can't think of a proper in depth review just be honest about it and say so but say whatever how minor is on your mind.

You care, if you gave your word to yourself, well, read the first paragraph I guess.

At a glance: looks like a cute movie. Perhaps I should ask someone to draw a character in a certain way... XD

FoxyIbLover

I thought you didn't really celebrate it? ("No excuses mr. Hamster!" *wags finger*)
IceAgeChippies
2 years, 7 months ago
I don't celebrate anything; making a drawing for around 60 people to look at (at least three-quarters of whom want to see it) isn't celebrating---it's being a cartooner who wants to please ...to a point ...kinda ...maybe ...thought that counts. ^^
FoxyIbLover
2 years, 7 months ago
How much time does a drawing take you?
IceAgeChippies
2 years, 7 months ago
Depends, but generally (for something like this) only a few minutes.
KNIFE
2 years, 7 months ago
I've never seen the show or the character before you drew and uploaded them but he's a squirrel and that's ok with me!!

Also Glider, *grin* nice touch.  Does it have an eraser or is it headless. :)
IceAgeChippies
2 years, 7 months ago
:D

The Glider has a standard ferrule with a pink eraser. It's probably a 60's or 70's pencil.
