(This story is a direct sequel to “Little Toddlers and Bigger Diapers.”, with the latter story taking place after “Babysitters and Boom Booms.” Said stories will be in the description if you haven’t read them already.)

Like the beginning of each and every day, the morning is marked by the radiant rays of the rising sun, prompting Elizabeth to get out of bed and give her body a good stretch. One may assume this is simply the start of another average day between the mother skunk and her little daughter, Emily, though Elizabeth is well aware that this is going to be a far different day than usual, especially given the changes that have occurred several weeks after that trip to the mall; on top of recently upgrading Emily’s crib to a kid-size bed, the toddler no longer needed to use a high chair for eating her meals, nor did she have to rely on pacifiers as a source of comfort anymore.

However, if there was still something that remained a constant for Emily, it was that she continued to get ample usage out of her diapers, and that’s exactly what Elizabeth planned to change today. After what’s now been three years of changing all of her daughter’s diapers, the mother skunk figured it was only a matter of time before she disliked being on diaper duty, and that was starting to be the case for a couple of reasons. First of all, Emily’s messes were only getting more potent in both size and smell, making diaper changes all the more difficult for her. Secondly, because of said stinky loads, Elizabeth constantly had to buy a brand of heavy duty diapers known as “Sturdy Stinkers”, and the pricey nature of such a specific and limited brand made buying diapers a lot more aggravating compared to the experience of the average parent. With all of those reasons in mind, Elizabeth knows that she only has one other option for getting herself out of this diaper debacle, to potty train Emily as soon as possible. In fact, the mother skunk had already made the necessary investments for starting this process, having already purchased a training potty, a pack of pull-ups, and a potty chart all within the same week.

“I think it’s finally time to ditch the diapers.” Elizabeth says to herself. “Now then, how am I going to go about this? How am I going to take that first step into getting my daughter potty trained?”

As Elizabeth slowly makes her way to Emily’s bedroom, she thinks about how to introduce the toddler to such a subject, how to pull her into the concept of potty training. After giving it a little bit of thought, the mother skunk decides that, given her daughter’s playful disposition, it would be best to portray potty training in the most enjoyable light as possible.

“Good morning, sunshine!” Elizabeth says with a wide smile as she enters Emily’s bedroom, noticing that the toddler is already wide awake and out of bed.

“Good mowning!” Emily says with an equally wide smile, eager to start the day while she excitedly shakes her bushy tail. “What are we gonna do today, Mommy? What we gonna do?”

“I’m glad you asked, Emily! I’ve actually got a special surprise for you!” the mother skunk cheerfully replies.

“Oooooh, what is it, Mommy? I wanna know! I wanna know!” says the little skunk as she happily hops in place, all the more excited to know what awaits her.

“You’ll find out pretty soon, sweetheart!” Elizabeth says as she gives the toddler a playful pat on the head. “How about you get dressed first, yea? Go ahead and pick out what you wanna wear!” the mother skunk suggests, figuring Emily would be in an even better mood to give potty training a try in clothes of her choice.

“Okay!” Emily nods her head and scans the closet’s contents for a few moments, eventually picking about a black bow and a dark black t-shirt with a bright pink heart in the center. “I wanna weaw dese!”

“Alrighty then!” Elizabeth says before taking off Emily’s pajamas and quickly replacing them with the black bow and t-shirt. “Awwww, cute as a button!” the mother skunk smiles and gives her daughter a kiss on the cheek.

Emily smiles back in response, always enjoying the simple and cute combination of her t-shirt and her heavy duty diaper, especially with said diapers having the adorable design pattern of sunflowers and smiling suns.

“Hehe, now teww me da suwpwise, Mommy!” Emily says with another eager shake of her tail.

“It won’t be a surprise if I tell you right now, silly!” says Elizabeth with a chuckle. “Close your eyes and you’ll find out in just a few moments.”

“Okay!” Emily says before closing her eyes.

While Elizabeth walks Emily down the stairs and to the living room, the little skunk sports a wide smile, getting more and more curious by the second, wanting to find out what her mother has in store for her. A few moments later, Emily feels Elizabeth’s movements come to a stop, indicating that the surprise is now ready to be shown.

“Okay! Open your eyes, Emily!” says Elizabeth.

The moment Emily opens her eyes, her excitement is met with an equal amount of confusion as she finds herself staring at a white training potty sitting in between the television and the couch, having not the slightest idea as to what this object is.

“Huh? What is dis, Mommy?” Emily asks her mother.

“It’s a training potty!” Elizabeth excitedly responds.

“A…what?” Emily asks, only becoming more confused by this response.

“Hehe, let me explain, sweetie.” she says to her daughter.  “Whenever you need to go pee pee or poo poo, you go in your diaper, yes?”

“Uh-huh! Uh-huh!” Emily nods her head and gives her padded bottom a playful pat.

“Well, now instead of doing it in your diaper, you can do it in the potty! That’s the point of potty training!” says the mother skunk with a wide smile.

The toddler affirmatively nods her head once again, though despite understanding the primary function of the training potty, a certain question still lingers in the skunk’s mind, that burning question of “why?”. After being accustomed to filling her diapers for three full years, Emily is extremely confused by the fact that she’s now being told to cease the common practice of peeing and pooping in her pampers, that she now has to do such things in this training potty.

“Um…why do I have ta use dis tingie?” Emily asks.

“Because being potty trained is a big step towards being a big girl! I can’t always be there to change your diapers, you know!” Elizabeth replies with a giggle.

“Den Maya can change my diapees!” Emily responds, clearly missing the implication of her mother’s words.

“Yes, but Maya is a babysitter, and they look after babies, not big girls!” Elizabeth responds, trying to maneuver around her daughter’s little kid logic. “Being a big girl means being independent and doing things on your own, and you can’t do that if someone else has to clean up after you, be it, me, Maya, or anyone else!”

Emily responds to that statement with a silent stare of confusion, making the mother skunk realize that she has to simplify things if she wants to sell her daughter on the idea of potty training.

“Let me put it this way, sweetie. You don’t see Mommy or Maya wearing diapers, right?” she asks the little skunk.

“Nuh-uh.” Emily shakes her head no in response.

“So, by learning how to use the potty, you get to be just like Mommy and Maya! Doesn’t that sound super cool?” Elizabeth asks with an encouraging smile.

“Oooooooh! Yea yea yea!” Emily responds, thinking it does sound quite cool to emulate the two adults she’s always had a liking towards.

“Glad you think so!” says the mother skunk with a wide smile, thinking she has the toddler convinced. “Now let’s go to the kitchen! I’ve got another cool thing to show you!”

As the two skunks walk to the kitchen, Elizabeth shows Emily a purple potty chart taped onto the refrigerator, located just above some drawings being held in place by fridge magnets.

“This is your personal potty chart, Emily! It’s a fun way to keep track of your potty training progress!” says Elizabeth. “Whenever you go pee pee in your potty, I’ll add a gold star to the chart, and when you go poo poo in your potty, I’ll add TWO gold stars!” Elizabeth adds, hoping this will get Emily to treat using the potty like a fun game to take part in.

“Oooh! What do da gowd staws do, Mommy?” Emily asks, curious to know more about the purpose of this potty chart.

“Well, when you get a certain number of stars, I’ll give you something special!” Elizabeth cheerfully replies. “In fact, if you get one star, I’ll make you a sweet treat after dinner!”

“Ooooh! Yummy! Yummy!” Emily says, intrigued by the idea of some kind of sweet treat.

From Elizabeth’s point of view, it seemed that Emily was already sold on the idea of potty training, that things seemed to be going a lot smoother than she initially anticipated.

“If you think that’s cool, I’ve got one more thing to show you, sweetie!” says the mother skunk with a wide smile.

Elizabeth quickly walks to the upstairs bathroom and grabs the pink pack of pull-ups she purchased, hoping this will be the thing that gets her daughter completely invested in the potty training process.

“Ta-da! I got you some training pants too!” Elizabeth enthusiastically rips the pack open and grabs a pair, revealing a pink pull with purple butterfly patterns. “Don’t they look pretty, sweetie?”

Oooh, dey wook so pwetty!” Emily says with a wide smile, captivated by their pink and purple color scheme.

“Then what are we waiting for? Let’s try them on!” says the mother skunk.

Elizabeth then undoes Emily’s diaper and replaces it with the pull-up, though they’re only a little less thick than her heavy duty diapers.

“Ooooh, I wuv dese new diapees, Mommy!” says the little skunk as she looks down at her new pair of training pants, immediately mistaking them for a different kind of diaper.

“They’re not diapers, sweetie. In fact, training pants are much better than diapers!” says Elizabeth. “Whenever you need to go pee or poo poo, all you gotta do is pull them down and sit on the potty like a big girl!”

Emily nods her head in response, though it was still hard for her to treat her training pants as anything but a different kind of diaper.

GROOOOOOOOAN!!!

The toddler’s tummy then lets out a loud rumble, prompting the little skunk to let out a playful giggle.

“Hehe, figured you’d be hungry after all that potty training talk.” says Elizabeth with a giggle. “Let’s get you something to eat!”

Emily nods her head and toddles to the pantry, opening it up and grabbing a box of Cheerios from the bottommost.

“Can’t go wrong with cereal!” says the mother skunk as he takes out the toaster and grabs two slices of bread.

Although, rather than handing the cereal box to her mother, Emily walks out of the kitchen and toddles to her training potty.

“Awww, already giving your potty a try? Such a big girl!” says Elizabeth with an approving smile.

Unfortunately, the mother skunk’s assumptions would soon be proven wrong, for her daughter wasn’t planning on using the training potty for its intended purpose. Still quite unfamiliar with the ins and outs of the potty, the little skunk’s silliness gets the best of her and she starts pouring the Cheerios into the potty, treating it like a cereal bowl.

“Emily! What are you doing? Your potty isn’t a cereal bowl!” says Elizabeth with a giggle.

“Ish not?” Emily asks, confused by the idea of this bowl-shaped object not being meant to function like a bowl.”

“No, you silly goose! The potty is for going pee pee and poo poo, remember?” says the mother skunk as she picks up the cereal filled potty. “Come on, let’s get your cereal in an actual bowl.”

As Elizabeth puts the pieces of bread in the toaster and pours the cereal back into a plastic bowl, a thought of slight concern arises in the mother skunk’s mind; while she always enjoyed Emily’s silly antics, there was a small part of her that started to worry, wondering if such silliness was a sign that her daughter wasn’t going to take potty training all that seriously.

POP!

However, before Elizabeth can dwell on that thought for too long, the two slices pop out of the toaster, prompting the mother skunk to put the pieces of toast on a paper plate and grab a carton of milk.

“Sweetheart! Come get your breakfast!” says Elizabeth as she pours the milk into cereal and places a plastic spoon into the bowl, eventually placing it on the kitchen table along with the plate of toast.

Emily toddles back to the kitchen and plops her crinkly tush onto the table, making rather quick work of her breakfast as she scoops spoonfuls of cereal into her mouth and takes big bites out of her toast.

“Yummy! Yummy!” says the little skunk in between mouthfuls of her breakfast.

After finishing off her food, Emily makes her way back to the living room and opens up the toy box, rummaging through its contents in search of something to play with. Eventually, she grabs a bright red bouncy ball from the box, a toy that no toddler could ever go wrong with, a toy that can be enjoyed both by oneself and in the company of others.

“Bouncy! Bouncy! Bouncy!”

Emily gleefully giggles and babbles as she bounces the ball to herself, greatly enjoying the toy’s springy and responsive movements. Several minutes pass while the little skunk toddles around the living room and dribbles the red bouncy ball, eventually realizing it’d be a lot more enjoyable to have an additional person to play with.

“Mommy! Mommy! Pway wlf me!” Emily says with a smile.

“Sure thing, sweetie!” says Elizabeth with a smile of her own, delighted by the prospect of playing with her daughter.

For several more minutes, Emily and Elizabeth bounce the ball back and forth, filling the air with the sounds of their cheerful laughter while the two skunks take part in this simple yet satisfying game.

“Hehehe! Dis is so much fun!” says the little skunk as she bounces the ball back to her mother.

GUUUUUUUURGLE!! GUUUUUUUURGLE!!

However, as their playtime goes on, Emily feels a certain pressure in her bowels, an all too familiar feeling from down below. Aptly addressing this pressure, the little skunk stands on her fours, spreads out her legs, and lifts her bottom to the ceiling, getting into her signature pamper packing pose as she scrunches up her face; while she was aware of her mother mentioning something about sitting on the potty when she had to go, at the same it was hard for her to ignore such instinctual actions.

“Emily! No!” Elizabeth quickly takes notice of Emily’s pooping pose, but by that point it’s far too late to do anything about it.

“Mmmph!”

PBLOOOOOOOOORT!!!

The toddler’s tail hikes up and she promptly poops her pull-ups, causing them to slump onto the ground as a large lump bulges out from the back.

“Mommy! I made poo poo!” Emily says with a silly smile, seemingly unconcerned about the fact that she completely went against the purpose of her pull-ups.

“Emily, big girls don’t make poo poo in their pants, they do it on the potty. Being a big girl means getting out of diapers, and that can’t happen if you treat your training pants like diapers.” Elizabeth makes this statement in the most instructive tone possible, though a part of her is pretty annoyed by this less than stellar start to potty training, especially when it looked like Emily was completely on board with the concept.

In response to Elizabeth’s words, conflicting thoughts start swimming around Emily’s mind while she stands around in her soiled trainers. Although her mother talked about going poo poo in the potty, about not treating her training pants like a diaper, this seemed like a total contradiction to the toddler. After all, her training pants felt soft and crinkly like a diaper, they had cute and colorful designs just like her diapers did, and, in identical fashion to a diaper, they became larger and lumpier whenever the little skunk dropped a big load, leading Emily to latch onto the idea that her pull ups were just a different kind of diaper.

“Um, okie, Mommy.” the little skunk responds, still quite confused about this whole potty training process.

“Alright, come on…let’s get you changed.” says the mother skunk before grabbing Emily by the waist and lifting her up.

While Elizabeth slowly carries her back to her bedroom, Emily looks down at her poopy pull-ups with a goofy grin on her face, giggling as they sag and sway from the sheer size of her mess; whether the dirty deed was done in a diaper or a pair of pull-ups, the little skunk always seemed to get a kick out of her big boom booms.

“Just stay right there, sweetie.” Elizabeth says as she lays her daughter onto the changing table, heading back downstairs to grab the pack of pull-ups.

Emily playfully shakes her tail and kicks her feet while she waits for mother to return, gleefully giggling as she stares at the lumpy load lurking in her trainers; even though Elizabeth told her that pooping her pants wasn’t exactly the “big girl” thing do, the toddler seems too immersed in her silliness to be concerned about such things, too innocent to care about growing up.

“Okay, now let’s get you cleaned up.” says Elizabeth as she returns to Emily’s room with the pack of pull-ups in her hand, grabbing the wipes and baby powder from below the changing table as well.

While the mother skunk is able to clean the toddler up with quickness and proficiency, a feeling of annoyance comes over Elizabeth as she plops the poopy pull-up into the trash; although she understood that such mishaps were simply a part of the potty training process, at the same it bothered her to be on what was basically diaper duty so early in the day, especially given that her goal was to get her daughter out of diapers as quickly as possible.

“Whenever you need to go, sit on the potty next time, okay, sweetheart?” Elizabeth says as she puts Emily in a new pull-up and sets her back down.

“Okay, Mommy!” Emily says as she toddles back downstairs.

The little skunk then heads back to the living room and looks at her training potty once again, still quite curious about what it can do. However, given the toddler’s playful disposition, such curiosity soon manifests into more silly shenanigans, prompting her to use the potty in more ways that go against its intended purpose.

“Hehehe, I da potty pwincess!” Emily picks up her potty and turns it upside down, placing it on her head like it’s some kind of crown.

The little skunk then toddles around the house with the training potty on her head, giggling and laughing as she repeats those claims of being a potty princess.

“Hm? What’s all that noise?” Elizabeth asks as she comes back downstairs.

She’s quick to pinpoint the source of the sound as she spots her daughter toddling around the house with her training potty on top of her head, continuing to babble about being a potty princess.

“If you truly want to be a potty princess, then why don’t you try using your potty like a big girl?” the mother skunk suggests.

Too caught up in her silliness to acknowledge her mother’s words, Emily keeps walking around with the potty on her head, though this didn’t sit too well with Elizabeth, and for the first time, she was starting to grow tired of her daughter’s playful antics. The mother skunk wanted to tell herself that her initial worries were unwarranted, that she was simply overthinking things, but now she couldn’t help but wonder if such silliness was a sign that Emily was never going to become a big kid, that she’d be the kind of person who’d be too carefree to take life seriously.

“Emily. Take that potty off your head. That’s not how big girls are supposed to act.” says Elizabeth, now in a slightly firmer tone of voice.

The little skunk takes the potty off her head, but this only prompts her to play with it in a different way.

“Mommy! Mommy! Catch!” the toddler suddenly tosses the potty towards her mother, now deciding to treat her training potty like a frisbee.

“Woah!” Elizabeth catches the potty at the very last moment, barely stopping it from smacking her right in the face. “Emily! We don’t throw the potty either!”

The toddler playfully giggles in response, though such antics won’t even warrant a chuckle from Elizabeth. Although she intended on taking advantage of her daughter’s playful disposition to expedite the potty training process, ironically enough, such playfulness resulted in her not taking potty training as seriously as Elizabeth had hoped.

“Here, why don’t you put your potty back so I can make you a snack?” says Elizabeth as she hands the potty back to Emily, figuring that making a snack would both make her daughter more compliant while also functioning as a way  to displace her developing frustration.

“Oooh, okie!” says the skunk with a nod of her head.

While Emily puts the potty back in its original position, Elizabeth takes out two slices of bread along with some jars of peanut butter and jelly. After taking out a butter knife, she quickly prepares a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, placing it on a paper plate and setting it on the kitchen table once it’s complete.

“Okay! I’ve got a sandwich for you, sweetie!” says Elizabeth.

Emily heads to the kitchen and plops her bottom onto the table, staring at her sandwich with a wide smile. The toddler then picks it up and takes a big bite, satisfied by the scrumptious spread of peanut butter and the gooey globs of jelly.

“Want something to drink with that?” Elizabeth asks.

“Appwe juice, pwease!” Emily responds.

While the little skunk finishes off her sandwich, Elizabeth grabs a container of apple juice from the fridge and pours its contents into a pink sippy cup, handing it to her daughter once it’s all filled up.

“Tank you!” Emily says with a smile.

“You’re welcome!” Elizabeth says before grabbing the empty plate and opening up the dishwasher.

While her mother does the dishes, Emily walks back to the living room and grabs the TV remote, pressing the power button and changing it to a cartoon of her choosing. After putting the remote down, the little skunk grabs her sippy cup and toddles to her training potty before taking a seat, treating it like a comfy chair ideal for extensive periods of cartoon consumption.

“Hehehe!” the toddler giggles and laughs as she watches the animated antics taking place on the screen, drinking from her sippy cup all the while.

Although, after a few episodes pass, all of that apple juice starts approaching its way out, prompting a potent pressure to develop in Emily’s bladder. Instinctively, the little skunk starts to relax, releasing her bladder’s contents regardless of the fact that she hasn’t taken off her training pants.

PSSSSSSSSSSSHHH!!!

A wide smile forms on the toddler’s face as she starts wetting herself, causing the butterfly patterns on her pull-ups. Once Emily empties her bladder, a sense of accomplishment swells within her, thinking she had used the potty like a big girl in spite of her thoroughly soaked trainers.

“Mommy! Mommy! I used da potty!” Emily exclaims.

“You did?” Elizabeth asks.

The mother skunk quickly puts her dishwashing duties on hold and rushes to the living room with an eager expression on her face, excited to see this instance of potty training progress. Unfortunately, Elizabeth’s excitement dissipates just as quickly as it emerged, quickly realizing that her daughter didn’t use the potty correctly.

“Emily, you’re supposed to take off your training pants before you sit on the potty, remember?” Elizabeth tells her, trying her best to hide her disappointment.

“Hehehe, oopsies!” Emily says with a fit of carefree laughter, clearly not too concerned over this mistake.

“Come on, let’s get you cleaned up.” Elizabeth says before lifting Emily off the training potty and carrying her back to her bedroom, all while the toddler’s soaked trainers sag and slosh between her legs; while the mother skunk was annoyed at having to change her daughter for a second time already, at the very least she thought she could have some hope towards the fact that Emily took a seat on the training potty.

Once the two of them reach the bedroom, Elizabeth lays Emily on the changing table, acquiring the changing supplies and a new pair of pull-ups.

GUUUUUUURGLE!!!

However, in the few moments Elizabeth spends finding said supplies, Emily feels a familiar pressure in her bowels once again, indicating that her sandwich was making its way out as well. With little hesitation, the toddler spreads her legs and scrunches up her face, preparing to produce another stinky surprise for her mother to clean up.

“Mmmmmmmmph!”

PBLAAAAAAAAARMPH!!!

Emily makes a poopy in her pull-ups once again, causing a large lump to protrude from them as a foul stench fills the air.

“Hehehe! Boom boom! Boom boom!” Emily says with a playful shake of her tail, finding much silliness in soiling herself to an even greater degree.

The moment the dirty deed is done, that glimmer of hope Elizabeth held on to completely crumbles, now replaced with far greater feelings of frustration. While the mother skunk wanted to assume the best of Emily, at this moment it felt like her daughter was genuinely messing with her, and it certainly didn’t help that the toddler was casually laughing at the fact that she just pooped her pants.

“Bad girl, Emily! That was very naughty of you!” Elizabeth says, her anger now starting to seep out.

Emily’s laughter comes to a sudden stop and a tense silence fills the room while Elizabeth cleans her up, with the toddler now feeling quite confused as to why her mother is getting so upset. As Elizabeth puts Emily in a new pair of pull-ups, she realizes that Emily’s playfulness is causing more problems than she expected, that it’s now time to take a more punitive approach to potty training.

“If you think it’s funny to keep pooping your pants, then you need to be taught a lesson.” Elizabeth says in a far firmer tone of voice.

The mother skunk then lifts Emily off the changing table and carries her back downstairs, plopping her in the rightmost corner of the living room and placing her in timeout.

“Perhaps a time out will make you reflect on what it means to be a big girl.” Elizabeth says to the toddler.

With that situation seemingly settled, the mother skunk returns to the kitchen and resumes her dishwashing duties, all while worrisome thoughts plague her mind.

“It hasn’t even been a full day and she’s already soiled her trainers twice. What am I going to do?” Elizabeth says to herself, not feeling too confident about how things are going. “Is Emily ever going to grow up? Will I still be changing diapers when my daughter’s in grade school?”

As time goes on, only the sounds of intense scrubbing are heard while Elizabeth finishes doing the dishes, fading into near silence once that job is done. However, after ten minutes pass, the silence is broken by a different kind of sound, one that isn’t heard all too often in this household.

Sniffle…sniffle…

Sniffling sounds are heard from Emily as she remains in the timeout corner, clearly distraught from disappointing her mother, from the implication she did something so terribly wrong that her mother wanted to distance herself from her.

“Oh…what am I doing?” Elizabeth says to herself.

As the little skunk’s sadness continues to permeate around the house, Elizabeth is met with a profound irony, as while this timeout was meant for Emily to reflect on her actions, it ended up causing Elizabeth to reflect on her own behavior. Although the mother skunk genuinely wanted Emily to grow up, to blossom into a big girl, she realized that her reasons for wanting to expedite this potty training process were primarily for her own sake, for being tired of changing her daughter’s diapers; as a result of such reasoning, all Elizabeth had done was put needless amounts of pressure on the toddler, causing the mother skunk to feel completely ashamed for acting so out of character.

“Emily?” Elizabeth asks as she walks back to the living room.

The little skunk slowly turns around in response, tears welling in her eyes as she continues to sit in that timeout corner, that spot of shame and sorrow.

“I’m sowwy, Mommy…” Emily says as her lip starts to quiver and tears start rolling down her cheeks.

The look on her daughter’s face leaves Elizabeth genuinely heartbroken, not only from the parental tendency to vicariously feel through her child, but also from the fact that she was the one who caused her daughter to feel this way, the one who created this rain cloud over her little ray of sunshine, the one who reduced the cheerful and chipper Emily, the skunk who brought plentiful shares of smiles and laughter every day, to such a state of sadness.

“No…I’m the one who should be sorry, sweetie…” Elizabeth says as she wraps her daughter in a warm embrace. “I’m the one who put all of this pressure on you. It was my fault for wanting to rush things.”

After releasing from the hug, Elizabeth wipes the tears from Emily’s eyes, allowing the toddler to gradually gain her composure.

“Look, we can always start potty training another time, when you’re ready for it. Being a big girl also means knowing your own limitations, and that’s something I failed to do.” Elizabeth says to her. “Now, let’s get you back in diapers. The potty won’t be something you have to worry about for the time being.”

“Okay, Mommy!” a smile quickly returns to the toddler’s face in response, more than glad to be back in diapers; while she certainly appreciated the pretty colors of her pull-ups, she had to admit that she missed the additional comfort and thickness of her heavy duty diapers, as well as the cutesy designs of the sunflowers and smiling suns that accompanied them.

With this conflict now resolved, Elizabeth picks Emily up and brings her back to her bedroom before laying her on the changing table. After taking off her training pants, the mother skunk snugly secures a diaper around her daughter’s waist and sets her back down.

“Hehehe! Big diapee! Big diapee!” Emily gives her newly padded posterior a playful shake, already back to her cheerful and energetic self.

“Awww, there’s my happy little girl!” Elizabeth smiles and gives the skunk’s padded posterior a gentle pat, glad to move past this initial conflict. “So, what should we do now, sweetie?”

“Oooh! I wanna go outside!” the toddler eagerly responds.

“That’s a lovely idea, dear! It’s a beautiful day, after all!” says the mother skunk. “Go ahead and get your shoes on, sweetie!”

After the two skunks make their way downstairs, Emily plops onto her padded rump and puts on a yellow pair of velcro shoes, securing the straps on each one.

“Weady, Mommy!” Emily smiles and stands back up.

“Great! Then let’s go!” Elizabeth grabs her daughter by the hand and steps outside before closing the door.

A wide smile appears on Emily’s face as they start their stroll around the neighborhood, enjoying the warm sunlight stroking her skin, the light breeze brushing at her tail, and the sight of other townsfolk with the same idea in mind. Like Emily, Elizabeth also takes her walk with a wide smile on her face, greatly enjoying this quality time with her daughter; while the mother skunk thought it may have been a little silly for Emily to be walking around in nothing but her black-shirt and her thick diaper, she certainly wasn’t going to let that detract from the experience.

“Oooh!” Emily says upon spotting a grassy area with several kinds of flowers.

The little skunk then walks onto the grass and squats near one of the sunflowers, appreciating its pretty petals.

“Wow! Dis fwowah ish so pwetty! Dey dah same as dah ones on my diapee!” says the toddler as she looks down at the patterns on her diaper.

“Indeed they are! Sunflowers are super pretty!” says Elizabeth. “You can pick one if you’d like!”

Emily nods her head and picks up the sunflower, fond of its brightly colored beauty. Now satisfied from her time with the flowers, Emily stands back up and holds her mother’s hand, ready for them to continue their walk.

“Having a good time, sweetie?” Elizabeth asks as they keep strolling around the neighborhood.

“Yea yea yea!” Emily happily responds.

After the two skunks walk around for a while longer, Emily spots another grassy area with a tall tree, playfully toddling around it before plopping onto the grassy ground with a content smile.

“Hehe, how about I join you, sweetie?” says Elizabeth as she walks up to the tree and sits next to her daughter.

The silence that was once a source of tension is now a source of tranquility as the two of them relax on the grassy terrain, appreciative not only of the beauty of the great outdoors and the soothing shade provided by the tall tree, but also of each other’s company, of these peaceful moments between mother and daughter.

“Want to sit on my lap, sweetheart?” Elizabeth asks.

“Mmhm!” the toddler responds with a nod.

“Ok! Up you go!” says Elizabeth as she picks Emily up and places the toddler on her lap.

The mother skunk softly strokes Emily’s head and they continue to sit on the grassy ground, all while the little skunk lightly wiggles her tail and cracks a content smile. In such moments of splendid serenity, the passage of time matters not to the two skunks, simply satisfied with enjoying the great outdoors while the sun slowly starts to set.

“Mmmm…” a wave of relaxation washes over Emily while she continues to lounge on her mother’s lap, enjoying each and every second of her time outside; although as more minutes pass, there’s something else of Emily’s that starts to relax as well.

PSSSSSSSSSSHHHH!!!

A loud hissing sound breaks the silence as the little skunk soaks her diaper, causing her smile to widen as it swells up and stains a light shade of yellow around the front.

“Ahhhh…” the toddler sighs in relief and cracks the silliest of smiles, with the warmth of her diaper adding another layer of relaxation to the experience.

“Hm? What was that, sweetie?” Elizabeth asks as she looks down at her daughter, though the sight of the skunk’s soggy diaper quickly addresses that question. “Oh! Looks like you need a diaper change!”

Shortly afterwards, the little skunk starts to squirm and her tail hikes up, still needing to empty herself a little more.

PFFFFFFFT!!

Elizabeth immediately feels a lump forming in her daughter’s diaper, but rather than viewing such diaper usage with disgust and derision, she simply laughs it off, remembering that Emily’s just doing what skunks do best.

“Well, when you gotta go, you gotta go!” Elizabeth says with a smile, a phrase she had told her daughter long before the idea of potty training was even on the table. “Let’s head back home so we change your diaper.”

As the two skunks start heading back home, Elizabeth can’t help but laugh as Emily gets into an awkward waddle, all thanks to the soggy and stinky diaper sagging between her legs; while the mother skunk may not have gotten the most enjoyment out of changing so many diapers, such sights made her realize that diaper duty had some silver lining to it, that there was silliness to be salvaged from the little skunk with a load in her pants.

“Here we are! Home sweet home!” Elizabeth says as the two skunks step inside the house, picking Emily up shortly afterwards. “Now let’s get you cleaned up!”

The toddler giggles and laughs while the mother skunk carries her back to her bedroom, greatly enjoying the walk they took.

“Hehehe.” the little skunk laughs and sticks out her tongue while she’s laid on the changing table.

Elizabeth lets out a laugh of her own and starts undoing the dirty diaper, making funny faces at the toddler while she cleans up her bottom. In turn, this gets the two skunks to burst into giggles, allowing Elizabeth to appreciate her daughter’s silly antics once again.

“And….all done!” the mother skunk snugly secures a clean diaper around Emily’s waist before dumping the dirty one in the trash.

“Tank you, Mommy!” Emily says with a wide smile.

“You’re very welcome, sweetie!” Elizabeth responds as she lifts Emily off the changing table and sets her back down, quickly realizing what they should do next. “Oh! Remember that sweet treat I talked about earlier?” she asks.

“Uh huh! Uh huh!” Emily responds with a nod of her head and a swish of her tail.

“Well, why don’t we make that treat together? Wanna make some brownies with me?” asks the mother skunk.

“Yea yea yea! Yummy yummy!” Emily enthusiastically responds, certainly not saying no to such a tasty treat.

With that decided, Emily and Elizabeth step out of the bedroom and head to the kitchen, equally as excited to start making those scrumptious sweets.

“Alright, let’s get this started!” says Elizabeth as she takes out a box of brownie mix.

“Oooh! What’s dat, Mommy?” Emily asks, curious about the box’s contents.

“It’s brownie mix, sweetie!” Elizabeth responds. “Now then, we’re gonna need a big bowl for this.”

The little skunk nods her head and toddles to one of the kitchen’s cupboards, opening it up and grabbing a big yellow bowl.

“Wike dis, Mommy?” the toddler asks.

“Perfect! Go ahead and bring it over here.” says the mother skunk.

Emily smiles and brings the bowl to her mother, prompting Elizabeth to place it on the kitchen counter.

“Now you can be the one to pour the mix in the bowl!” Elizabeth says as she opens up the box and grabs a yellow stepping stool for the little skunk.

Emily eagerly nods her head and toddles towards the stool, stepping onto it and staring at the box with wide and curious eyes. The toddler then grabs the box and pours its contents into the bowl, smiling as it fills up with the sweet substance.

“Great! Now we need a couple of eggs!” says Elizabeth as she takes out a container of eggs from the fridge. “Wanna try cracking one, Emily?”

“Uh huh! Uh huh!” Emily instantly responds.

“Ok. Watch carefully, sweetheart.” Elizabeth lightly taps one of the eggs on the bowl’s rim before opening it up and letting its contents plop into the bowl. “Now you try!”

Emily grabs one of the eggs and lightly taps it on the rim, trying her best to mimic her mother’s actions.

“Good! Now just open it up and get the gooey part in the bowl.” says the mother skunk.

Emily then opens up the egg and watches its contents fall into the bowl, cracking a satisfied smile in response.

“Great job, honey!” says Elizabeth as she throws the egg shells away. “I’ve got something else for you to do as well!”

The mother skunk then takes out a bottle of vegetable oil, pouring some of its contents into the bowl. Once that’s done with, Elizabeth hands Emily a long and wooden spoon, providing the little skunk with her next assignment.

“You can be the one to do the mixing, sweetie! Just move that spoon around in big circles!” Elizabeth tells her.

“Oooh! Okay!” Emily responds, figuring that sounds simple enough.

The little skunk then puts the spoon in the bowl and moves it around with both of her hands, appreciating the sight of the bowl’s contents swirling around, enjoying the fun and simple act of moving the spoon in circles. While that’s going on, Elizabeth grabs a steel tray and starts greasing it up, turning on the oven once that’s done with.

“Ok, now let’s see how the batter is doing.” says Elizabeth as she walks up to Emily and looks into the bowl. “Wow! That looks lovely, Emily! You did such a good job!”

“Yay yay yay!” Emily says with an accomplished smile.

“Alright, I’ll do the rest from here, honey.” Elizabeth smiles and gives Emily a kiss on the cheek. “Thanks for being such a good helper!”

Elizabeth then pours the batter into the tray and evens it out with a spatula, placing the tray into the oven once the process is complete.

“Ooooh! I can’t wait, Mommy!” Emily says as she steps off the stool, excited to eat those tasty treats.

“Me neither!” says Elizabeth with a chuckle.

The little skunk then plops onto her diapered butt and watches the brownies bake in the oven, smiling as the batter starts to solidify. While more time passes, a reassuring smile forms on Elizabeth’s face, satisfied by how smoothly the rest of the day has gone by.

“Well, perhaps I didn’t need to be so worried. Emily will be a big girl someday.” the mother skunk says to herself; while potty training was something the two of them would have to revisit another time, Emily’s cooperation during this act of brownie baking proved to be a sign of optimism for the mother skunk, a sign that the toddler was at least capable of following directions to a certain degree, even if her silly and carefree disposition implied otherwise.

DING!

Although, before Elizabeth can get too introspective, the oven’s timer expires, indicating that the brownies are finally ready.

“Sounds like the brownies are done!” Elizabeth grabs a pair of oven mitts and grabs the tray out of the oven, letting the brownies cool off for a little while.

“Mmmmmm! Dose smeww so yummy!” Emily says with a wide smile, enjoying the chocolatey scent emanating around the kitchen.

“They sure do, sweetie!” Elizabeth responds as she grabs a kitchen knife. “How big of a piece do you want?”

“A big one!” the toddler responds.

“Coming right up!” Elizabeth cuts the brownies into decently sized squares and places one of them on a paper plate, handing it to Emily with an endearing expression.

The little skunk then toddles to the table and takes a seat while Elizabeth serves an equally big slice of brownie for herself, sitting across her daughter with a satisfied smile. For a few moments, the toddler simply stares at the tasty treat in front of her, intrigued by the chocolatey contents confined into a simple square.

“Hehe, go ahead and take a bite, sweetie!” says Elizabeth with a giggle.

The little skunk nods her head and picks up her brownie before taking a big bite out of it, immediately immersed by the sea of sweet and chocolatey goodness swimming around her mouth, by the warm and gooey textures treating her tastebuds to an experience unlike any other.

“Mmmmm! Ish so yummy!” Emily says with the widest of smiles.

“I’m glad you like it, sweetie!” says Elizabeth as she starts eating her own brownie.

Due to enjoying her scrumptious sweet so much, Emily finishes her brownie with an extremely messy face; in addition to bits and pieces of chocolate crumbs being scattered all around the toddler’s mouth, globs of gooey and sticky chocolate surround the rest of her face.

“Honey! You’ve made such a mess!” Elizabeth can’t help but laugh at the sight of her daughter’s sticky face as she grabs a napkin, making sure the toddler’s face is completely spotless as she cleans it up.

Although, as the mother skunk would soon realize, a messy face was far from the only thing that would arise as a result of that big brownie square. Now feeling a lot more energetic from that sudden dose of sugar, Emily, hops off the table and rushes to the living room, suddenly shaking her hips and wiggling her padded posterior from side to side.

“Shakey shakey shakey! Do da diapee dance!” says the little skunk with a goofy grin on her face.

After Elizabeth puts the plates away, she watches the toddler engage in her silly antics, giggling at the sight of Emily dancing around and showing off her heavy duty diapers. As several minutes pass, the sun completely sets and the sky starts to darken, indicating that bedtime is just around the corner.

“Okay, Emily! It’s time for bed!” says the mother skunk.

Emily doesn’t stop her diaper dance in response to this command, too immersed in her sugar-induced state to do anything of the sort. However, as much as Elizabeth felt the need to scold her daughter for this act of disobedience, the mother skunk soon develops a different idea for dealing with this.

“Well, I suppose it’s my fault for giving her all that sugar.” Elizabeth says to herself. “Now I just need to get all of that silly energy out of her system.

The mother skunk then walks to the couch and turns on the television, flickering through the channels until she stumbles upon one playing peppy music. In response, Emily’s movements become a lot more energetic as she wiggles her bottom in tandem with the tunes, elevating these amusing antics into a diaper dance party.

“Go, Emily, go! Go, Emily, go!” Elizabeth cheers the toddler on and starts clapping her hands, figuring she’d add something to this padded performance.

The toddler then incorporates several spins and jumps into her dance number, doing different kinds of moves and maneuvers as the song goes on.

“Yea! Show off those moves, sweetie!” says Elizabeth, further encouraging Emily to expend her energy.

The little skunk does a final series of spins before the song comes to an end, ending her dance with a playful flourish.

“Bravo! Bravo!” Elizabeth gives her daughter a resounding round of applause.

The toddler smiles and takes a bow in response, though it’s not too long before she lets out a long yawn, finally starting to feel sleepy.

“Now are you ready for bed?” Elizabeth asks with a giggle.

“Mmhm…” Emily says with a nod.

The two skunks then walk upstairs and head back to Emily’s bedroom, with Elizabeth making her way to the closet and grabbing a pink onesie.

“Ok, let’s get your PJ’s on!” says Elizabeth.

GUUUUUUUURGLE!! GUUUUUUUURGLE!!

However, before bedtime can commence, a loud gurgle emits from the toddler’s tummy, with the big brownie now bound to become a big mess in Emily’s diaper. In typical toddler fashion, Emily stands on her fours, spreads out her legs, and lifts her padded rump to the ceiling, scrunching up her face as she gets into her signature pooping pose.

Even though Elizabeth knows what’s coming next, the mother skunk cracks a content smile. After that hasty attempt at potty training her daughter, the mother skunk acknowledges that Emily is only going to be a little kid for so long, that toddlerhood is such a small segment relative to the rest of her life; in hindsight, Elizabeth realized that having Emily stay in diapers isn’t the worst thing in the world after all, that she should allow Emily to make the most of her childhood before life presents the little skunk with responsibilities beyond using the potty.

“Mmmph…”

PBLOOOOORP!!!

Emily’s tail hikes up and a big solid drops into her diaper, causing a noticeable lump to bulge out from the back. As the toddler maintains that signature pose, she continues to grunt and push, unloading what’s left of the chocolatey treat she recently consumed.

“Mmmmmmph!”

BRAAAAAAAAAAAP!! SPLOOOOOOOORTCH!!!

Big bouts of flatulence are heard as Emily pushes an additional pile of pudding into her pampers, causing them to sag some more and discolor a dark and murky brown.

“Mommy! I made poo poo!” Emily says with the silliest of smiles, quite proud of the way she just packed her pampers; the little skunk then looks down at her discolored diaper, prompting her to expel a goofy giggle. “Hehehe, my diapee ish bwown too! It wooks wike a bwownie!”

Even with the extremely foul stench filling the air, even regarding the repulsive sight of her daughter’s stained and saggy diaper, Elizabeth finds herself laughing along with Emily; with all the fun she had with the toddler during the second half of the day, with all the smiles and silly moments provided by her little ray of sunshine over the years, Elizabeth realizes that she wouldn’t have her life any other way, even if it means having to change the dirtiest of diapers.

“Your diaper may look like a brownie, but it certainly doesn’t smell like one!” says Elizabeth as she picks up the stinky skunk and lays her on the changing table. “Now let’s get you in a nice, clean diaper.”

Ending the day on one more diaper change, the mother skunk quickly cleans Emily up and secures a clean diaper around her bottom, putting her in the pink onesie once that’s done with. After that, Elizabeth lifts Emily off the changing table and puts her to bed, smiling as she tucks in the little skunk.

“Love you, sweetie.” Elizabeth says as she gives Emily a kiss on the cheek.

“Wuv you too, Mommy.” Emily responds.

After the toddler closes her eyes and falls asleep, Elizabeth heads to her bedroom and puts on a pair of comfier clothes before settling in her bed. Although the mother skunk started her morning with the lofty aspiration of quickly getting her daughter out of diapers, she’s content to put that desire on hold for a while

“Looks like I’m changing diapers for a little longer.” Elizabeth says to herself. “But that’s…okay.”

The mother skunk closes her eyes and falls asleep with a smile, looking forward to what the future holds for herself and her daughter, even if said future has its fair share of diaper duty.
