In the natural world, animals aren't allowed to be soft. Weak animals are starved, rejected or killed painfully. Nature is a cold, merciless, bleak place. Nature a place of meaningless, pointless, endless suffering.
This drawing is basically my little personal rebellion against nature. I refuse to accept that the world is this way. I refuse to participate in such a bleak and pointless world.
So, instead, I have created my own world in my imagination. A world where animals are allowed to be soft without being punished for it. A world free from the tyrannical, dictatorial bully that is natural selection. A decadent, playful, kind world of gentleness, comfort and leisure.
This soft, dorky, weak lion is one of the inhabitants of that world. He lives safely and happily, surrounded by loving friends, with all his needs met, and he's free to be himself. Every person and animal deserves to live in such a paradise.
I have to believe that we will end up in a paradise after this life, even though it's irrational. Because I just can't bear reality without such escapism. I hate the world too much to bear the idea that it is all that exists.
