Equipped with a long sharp needle, the needle squid can easily pierces through your hand should you try to grab it improperly

A crimson colored squid with unusual fin and defense mechanism.

Large transparent fins gave the Needle Squid movements almost identical to a Manta Ray. It's also observed to leap into the air from the water, possibly to avoid potential predators. If threatened, it would extend a long sharp needle within it to fend off attackers. It can regrow it's needle should it ever break.

Assessment: Edible, be careful of the sharp needle
