There’s a reason the swan is my favorite animal. I compare it to me and my past. I started off like the story, “The Ugly Duckling,” and just like that duckling in the book, I didn’t know my worth. I never thought I would ever amount to anything. All the bad things I’ve been through, I felt just like that duckling.

It wasn’t until I started seeing myself as someone who’s jumped hurdles, who’s overcame hard situations, who knew I’m meant to mean something to someone, that I started to turn into something better.

I could have stayed in that “ugly duckling” phase but I didn’t. In time, it turned me into this beautiful swan. Though my past was an “ugly duckling,” my future is now a “swan!”

This is why they’re my favorite animal.
