Shadow sighed as he finally slumped down on the couch after finishing the chores. Sonic had just gotten back from fighting once more and took over for the dark hedgehog. His stomach had grown considerably, swollen and heavy. He was merely at the end of his second trimester and he couldn’t believe his size so it’s much to his torment he couldn't fathom how much more his stomach will grow in the next three months. He groaned at the thought and let out another heavy sigh of frustration, sinking his body further into the cushions.
Despite his current frustrations, he simply let it go once he felt a kick inside his stomach. That simple action was enough to remind the dark hedgehog of the reason for his swollen belly. He was awaiting a baby, his baby. Never had he thought the day would come where he would end up a father, let alone the ability to carry his child. For most of his existence, Shadow had cursed Gerald for having engineered him with both sexes. While the purpose behind that decision was never made clear to him, he began to appreciate his strange anatomy for the blessing he’s been given.
Shadow pulled his hoodie just above his stomach before he began to rub circles on it, soothing the hyperactive kicking. That child was certainly Sonic's, all right. He closed his eyes and leaned his head on the back of the couch.
The sound of Sonic finishing washing the dishes brought Shadow out of his daze as he saw the blue hedgehog walk into the living room.
“Dishes are cleaned and dinner's done!” He affirmed before going to sit on the couch next to his husband. He noticed how Shadow's stomach twitched, he placed his hand over it and felt the kicks.
“You okay?” He asked tenderly, joining Shadow in his ministrations.
“Yeah. He’s just having ‘fun’ in there,” Shadow gestured to his swollen body as he felt another kick, this time hitting his rib. He didn’t show it but it hurt like a bitch. He swears this kid will be the death of him.
“Hehe, I’m sure he’ll calm down soon,” Sonic leaned into his husband's side, planting a kiss on Shadow's temple. He wrapped his arm around his shoulder and cuddle him, resting their heads together.
"I can't wait until he's here," Sonic muttered. Shadow agreed, waiting for the day he doesn't have to carry this extra weight around. Both hedgehogs stayed embraced on the couch until the baby's kicks settled down.
"C'mon, let's eat." Sonic stood from the couch before helping Shadow up, lifting him by his arm. They walked towards the kitchen before sitting down for dinner.
