Background/History
A mythical creature that lives in bodies of water and sometimes taking on the appearance of a beautiful black mare, only to drag whoever rides her into the watery depths until they down. Linhope was a relatively normal Kelpie, until one day she spotted a beautiful woman bathing in her river. Linhope felt something she had never felt before, lust.
At first Linhope thought to approach her in disguise, but found herself too taken with the woman's beauty to be able to act on that. Instead she watched the mysterious woman until the woman noticed her beneath the waves. The woman, frightened, ran off naked back to her village. Linhope then felt something else she had never felt before, sadness. She would lie upon a stone in a secluded part of the river and cry for days upon scaring the beautiful woman away.
It was on one such day when Linhope heard a soft voice asking what was wrong. Linhope, without looking, said that she had scared of the love of her life. The soft voice asked why they had run away. Linhope told the newcomer that it was because of her monsterous appearance.
"I think you look cute." the stranger said. Linhope looked up to see a plain looking girl standing at the bank. "What know you of beauty?" Linhope demanded, lashing out at the girl. The girl did not reply, but instead ran off with tears on her eyes. Linhope did not feel proud of what she had said, but her pride kept her from following the girl.
Linhope finally left her brooding stone and once again patrolled the river, though she did not show herself to any more humans. Many days later, however, she happened to spy the plain girl and some boys at the edge of the river. The boys were yelling things at the girl and tossing pebbles at her. "If you love the stupid river so much, go join the kelpie that lives in it!" one boy shouted before pushing the girl in. Linhope watched as the girl struggled under the waves, realizing that the girl would soon down.
Linhope felt many new things this time. Anger, despair, regret, fear, and under it all something else. Love. Taking the girl upon her back, Linhope's seaweed mane gently wrapping her, Linhope then burst from the river. "Kelpie!" the boys cried, "Monster! Bringer of death."
"Yes, I am all those things." Linhope announced, a fire in her eyes "But most of all I am vengeance." and with that she crushed their bodies it the riverbank. When the girl regained counciesness they were back at the spot where she had first met the Kelpie. "I must apologize to you." Linhope said "I tried to drive you away, for you reminded me of lost love. However I was a fool, for it was not love but passing fancy."
"You are more than a passing fancy to me" the girl said, crawling from Linhope's back and facing her "you have been in my mind since I first set eyes on you, all those weeks ago. Your beauty and grace far outshine any maiden I've seen in life or in storybooks." The girl took a step closer, Linhope felt her face burn with embarrassment over a human being so forward to her. "I beg your pardon being so forward, but I told myself I would not let another chance such as this pass me by." and with that the girl leaned in, pressing her lips firmly against Linhope's. Linhope paused for merely a moment before giving in letting the girls tongue slide against her own.
