« If you release me, I can grab it for you, mommy. » said a pouty voice. “No, no, princess. I know that if I let you out, you’ll disappear and I’ll have to look for you all over the store as you go from one shiny thing to another.” Said a firm female voice. The only answer was a loud huffy noise from the first voice. All this commotion makes Nigel, the lion doctor and daddy, curious and he tugged on Basil’s toddler leash. The lion was going there at some point or another, so might as well go now, because it was the adult diaper aisle. “Do we have to go there now ? There are people there…” said the bear with his singing childish voice, but not hiding his poutiness. “It seems someone needs help there.” Answered firmly the feline.
With a crinkle, the bear toddled behind the tall lion, hoping the stature of his daddy would hide him, and saw two canines. One was a chubby wolf about the same age as him, dressed like a cute little baby girl and pouting inside an high end stroller made for adult babies, and what seems to be his mommy, a slightly smaller mix breed chocolate brown female dog with the tell-tale signs of a diaper under her clothes. She was struggling to reach the XL size princess diapers on the top of the shelves.
Tugging more on the backpack leash of his toddler harness, Nigel led Basil closer. “Don’t be that shy, everyone here do not mind that you’re a not yet potty trained little one.” He said as he got close to the female dog and helped her with the pack of diapers. “Here, let me help you.” With a smile. “Those are the 10 drops kind, most absorbent you can find. Quite thick.” “Yes, princess Puddlepup here needs those or she leaks everywhere.” Pointing to the wolf in the stroller, who muttered about being named Loupy. “I’m Fiona, btw, thanks you for the diapers. Can you grab me another pack, please?” “I’m Nigel.” Said the Lion as he did as asked. “And here is Basil. Be polite, little one, say hi.” The bear made a mumble that sounded like a quite shy hi, which the “princess” repeated herself to the group, the two quite bashful as it seems.
“How old is this cutie pie?” asked the feline, getting close to Loupy “5 ?” “Yush, yush, yush !” said the wolf with eagerness, looking at his caretaker with pride. “She wishes she was that old, she is only 3, and barely. And how old is your cute little teddy bear ? I would say 4.” “Come on, little one, you can answer yourself. And no nonsense about being 20 something, daddy knows the truth.” The brown bear looked away, all blushing “yush, I’m 4 …” with some pride in his voice, looking at the strapped wolf. “Isn’t he adorable ?” petting the bear’s head “thinking he is 4…” then whispering to Fiona’s ear “He is only 2, even younger than your daughter.”
“Little cubs are so much work, but so rewarding, aren’t they ?” said Fiona, chuckling. The lion sigh. “Indeed they are, indeed. But those diapers cost so much ! And they go through so many of them !” Both “cubs “ huffed together at the comment, getting a laugh from the two “grown-ups”. “Especially when you check on their diapers or change them while you’re out.” Said Fiona. The two little ones, not so little in size, looked at each other and shared a “parents, you know” look as they knew their needs were going to be talked about for many long minutes and they wished they could be anywhere else…
