As author, I get the privilege of seeing the different realities my characters exist in. The one I consider the primary one for my characters lets everyone's age progress with my own, and they have physical sizes and heights that fall somewhere within the same human scale, much like the left image. Those official sizes are saved in the background on a spreadsheet I have to check back from time to time.

But then there are what I consider parallel continuities, different spaces where a different artistic interpretation has room to deliver a new point of view where the basic story is the same, but with key variations. One such alternate would be akin to Zootopia, where different animals are different sizes based on their respective species, and a full-grown bunny would be tiny compared to a big cat. Another one takes the adoption analogy of claiming the designs from other artists as being a new parent and caregiver to them.

But... on some level, some higher level, they're my characters, existing only as drawings that I put on paper and in words saved on my computer. As the author, I can see that reality just as clearly as the ones where I get to interact with them. It was saddening for me to recognize that yes, on some level, they're just drawings. But even as I was looking sadly at it, I could feel Caity reassuring me with a warm touch on my shoulder that reminds me she could still reach me where no character can exist. When I say she is my muse, it is because she is above the levels of my artistic creation, and her image is as much an avatar for her being as Tavvycat is an avatar for mine.
