Yes, I said I was probably done with this. Apparently, I found an idea to move forward with.
There's a few things I'll need to tweak, but I'm pretty happy with this change.
If you can't tell, I've removed the dirt island, and replaced it with basically nothing. There's now some struts to keep everything together, though I haven't provided any supports to the ocean floor yet, and given the current perspective, I probably won't, unless I can explain them in some story-driven way.
When I'd started this idea, there wasn't any further idea other than "cool art background" on this, but now that I've made this much progress, I'm wondering if it wouldn't be a great fit for part of a Myst-like exploration game that's been rattling around in my head for years now. Not sure what puzzles/clues/story notes would be on something this small, but it's an idea of some kind.
Created entirely within Blender, rendered in Cycles, and post-processing done in the Compositor.
(it's a pity you can't re-run just the compositing pass, without having to render the whole thing over again. I know you can save the results of a Viewer Node, but it feels like a bit of a hack)
