Spin Me Round
OTHAFA Page 42: Hammer Stroke.*

"Wow," said Freidrik, in genuine amazement, " You're, uh... you're not good."
"It's no fair using the sword like that!" Cubbi said indignantly rubbing his head again.
"Really? Well that's certainly news to me."
He easily parried another one of Cubbi's wild swings and biffed him on the head once more.
"STOP!"
"Look it's not my fault you don't know how a long sword works."

Writer's Note: ... *BIFF!*
*(Also referred to as the "Murder Stroke")

*sigh* ok this is where I can't stand the barbics, and yes this is unfair because you don't use a real sword like that unless you want to lose some fingers. It's like how if you train while using the rules to your advantage instead of treating it like the real thing then you're not getting anything out of it, Reminds me of early My Hero Acedemia where they have the fake villain vs hero match and the one to pass is the only one not trying to exploit the rules to win.

I'm not quite sure I follow...

Actually, that is an actual usage for swords. There are quite a few HEMA experts that have gone over how to do it right without losing fingers.

Here's a link to a video explaining how this method (grabbing a sword by the blade to deliver blows with the pommel or guard) was used, when, and why: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwuQPfvSSlo

I got a feeling that we could see a Barbaric version of "I'll make a man out of you."

My Krav teacher once started a class by having us getting used to grabbing dummy knives to get over the fear of thinking "don't grab the blade".

Yep, It's called Half-swording. There's full historical texts on it. The manuals show holding your own blade or grabbing, swatting, batting the opponent blade aside.
