"Show-like" design and "RPG like" design

This first picture is a sample of a show-like design for the Ponyville's marketplace.
As you can see, the design is fairly symmetrical, and just plain "flat". In a cartoon, that design works really well, because you're focusing more on the characters rather than the actual background and environment so you can have less detail in the terrain and such.

In a game, this just doesn't work...it makes the game just unappealing to look at...and it will just scream of lack of creativity, with soul'less design.

The second picture on the other hand shows a more attractive design...there's just...wel, "stuff". You go around and it's not just flat grass or something like that, there's actual variety. THAT is the design I've chosen to go with...unfaithful to the show - definitely...but looks better for games - yes.

Feel free to leave your comments/thoughts below. Thank you. ^_^

Oh man, the second view looks just like the quality of Nintendo Pokemon RPG up to pre 3DS, that is Pre Black and White?

I think the later ones use a flatter isometric, folowed by  3D with perspective, Im sure Ive seen something using 2D parralax planes for simulation, but RPG maker itself does an excelent job.

The animation series, so far, is more point and click, where each scene is almost static, and so can be 2D, or at most pan and scan? The sections in the desert wouldnt have looked out of place with Roadrunner and Wile Coyote in the background.

I hope you have far too many ideas to make use of, that way you can pick up collections of what you consider teh best,a nd leave others for further ideas, cross referencing and such. 8)

Thanks for showing your work to us. Certainly helps me remember happy times. 8}

Now, I have to keep reminding myself, do not use the E8 ball on Luna, Celestias action could be most unfortunate for the local system.

Oh my the second picture looks nice, now I'm no pro on things like this at all, but I think eye candy can -after game play- make a game. A game may be fun to play but if it looks boring, you don't feel like re-playing to see ever thing. So a mix of art and play name out do a top of the line game if done good. +feels smart+

Definitely the more detailed design is more appealing, and I don''t see a problem trying to mesh it with the shows design, it isn't like you ever see a flat over world view of the city, the layout is up for grabs!
