Speaking of Caillou, I was reading a few stories from the Caillou story treasury a few days ago, and to be honest, I think those stories are Caillou done right. Caillou isn't a brattish jerk in them, he behaves like a normal kid his age would and if he's ever naughty or throws a tantrum, his parents actually reprimand him before explaining what he did wrong. I think these versions of the stories are the best versions I've seen.
