Today is Halloween (boo!). In two days, America has Election Day. This is 2021, an off-year election, so turnout will be low. But since last year’s election, 18 states have enacted 30 new laws that make it harder to vote.* With voter apathy a perennial drag on American politics, why would anyone think this is a good idea? The repeated excuse is to improve security and accuracy. But repeated attempts to find voter fraud has, in fact, found the opposite to be true—that the 2020 election was irrefutably secure and accurate, and obviously so. The recent Arizona “audit” proved this to the point of making “voter fraud” a laughingstock. But the voter restriction laws got passed, and this flag commemorates America’s slow walk away from its greatest strength by depicting the 18 scars where there once were stars.
Let’s make this off-year an on-year, because if we sleepwalk through this, the tyrants win. Vote.
