I whipped up this very fast pencil paper sketch of myself not too long ago and I'm happy at the result. The proportions look OK for not really knowing how to draw The only thing that looks wrong is the hat but that's been digitally fixed as for hands, that's a different story. Those are still a nightmare to draw! 😐.

Anyway I wanted to finish this up and turn it into a digital piece. I was messing around with the iPad and the drawing program, Autodesk Sketchbook and seriously! For all these years that I have cracked my head wanting to know how in the world to properly paint stuff. For the life of me I could NEVER do that fancy stuff of painting over black lines and having the lines not get painted. H have seen dozens of instructional videos but they never explained how that happened or how to do it! I was scratching my head all this time and had just given up thinking I could never get to that fancy level.

Yeah, I'm a knucklehead dummy. Just this week I sort of stumbled onto that solution for that evasive problem/ I found out that I had my layering wrong and for the very first time I found out how to use the transparency lock function. Yep! I'm a moron! So using that feature is the thing that allows you to color over black parts without actually painting the lines! For years and years I have wondered exactly how to do that but never knew until a few days ago.

I already have this sketch on the iPad and came up with a background scene for it. It's still a WIP but mostly, I wanted to mention that I'm happy about finally finding out about that lock transparency and layer order business! It really sucks not knowing and just winging it as I have done for years. I also want to make this piece way better than the very half-assed one I drew last August.
