In 2035, the world saw a massive revolution. "Mana", the very original name chosen for a new power source. The entire world shook down to it's very core, a power revolution that was very originally (again) dubbed "The surge".
An exponential leap in technology and quality of life for everyone.
The masterminds behind this leap: Adam and Elize Kitsune, the heads of Hyperion's research department. This well known and respected couple successfully synthesized a self-sustaining, self replicating, infinite, blue-glowing power source. This of course didn't happen overnight, and couldn't happen without hundreds of researchers behind the couple.
With mana, Hyperion became the biggest and most important b̵͉̩̰͉̗͕̣͈͚̖̦̩̗̠̬́̀͟͠e̡͇͇͈͎̠͍͎̟͔͍̳͚͠͝͞ͅì̴̢͚̞͕̩̱̙̫ͅń̴͙̘̭̱̹͕̠̗̯͞ͅǵ̡̪̝̻̥̤́͜͟ in the entire planet, taking over everything. a͡͏ǹ̴̶͢͠d̵ ̷̵̨̨̛e҉́v̶́èr̸͢͢͞y̴̶̢̛o͢͏̀͠n̡̛è̸̀͠͞.
It goes without saying, that after changing the world, The kitsunes were compansated gloriously, enough to cover the expenses of their entire lifetime, plus twelve generations after them.
Kayla was born in 2037, in Port Blue. Daughter of Adam and Elize, she grew up in her town of birth in a small, incredibly luxurious apartment right infront of the port itself. During her first year of life, her parents cared for her and spent most of their time with her, however, they started a new research project, and began spending most of their time inside a lab like they had done most of their life before that. They didn't need the money, they were not told to do so, Hy̴per͡io͜n d͏oe͟s͞n͝'͏t̛ ҉f̕o͠r҉c͟e ̛anyon̷e̷ , but they chose to, leaving behind their daughter with babysitters and helpers.
Even this was taken away from her in 2045, when Hyperion announced their new big invention; Electric Hearts. A.I companions capable of projecting physical forms, that could be programmed and customized. One of these was installed in Kayla's apartment, E.M.O, or Electronic Multifunction Operator. This artificial being would become Kayla's only company, since there was no need for actual, living helpers anymore.
Kayla spend most of her time growing up with random faces that would change every month or even faster, not truly attatching to anyone but an artificial intelligence. She would see her parents some odd weekends or hollidays, at first she would get really excited, but over time it became more frustrating than it was joyful.
She began attending elementary school in due time, where she met who would become her best and dearest friend, Axel.
Her seeming lack of parents and her loneliness made her grow incredibly attatched to the red panda boy. She would spend lonely nights at her place, thinking about how happy and united Axel's family looked, how they enjoyed meals together, how he could call his mom on his cellphone to come pick him up...
She would sob silently, longing for something like that. Now every time her parents showed up, she would get incredibly sad, sometimes yell at them and cry. The Kitsunes seemed unmoved by this, just looking at each other with slight frowns, before driving off to their lab.
This frustration took a big toll in her mental health, soon, she adopted the "emo kid" style, she felt comfortable wearing those clothes and being "in that vibe". She had a bit of unnecesary edge to her, but she felt she wanted to dress and act as an "outcast" and "rebel", even though her behaviour was never one of strenght and defiance, but rather one of melancholy and sadness.
At school, she wouldn't get good grades, she wouldn't hang out with anyone, not even Axel, since he also had other friends and she "didn't want to bother", even though he insisted every time to join them. She was the quiet kid sitting in the corner, doodling some random stuff on the back pages of her notebook.
Axel really liked Kayla's looks and fashion choices, so he followed suit, even though he was a very kind, humble and loving guy who always saw the good out of everything.
Whe she turned 9, Kayla began spending entire days in Axel's place, playing videogames with him, enjoying movies with him and his family, Axel's parents began growing very fond of little Kayla as well.
Sometimes she would stay and sleepover at his place, and even sleep with Axel. The nights she was hugging his tail like a plushie were the ones she truly rested well.
Sometimes they would stay awake playing games or watching tv, sometimes just talking....
"Woa, I wish I was a millionaire like you, I would buy the entire candy store!"
"....I wish I had my mommy..."
