What did her husband/boyfriend try to do that he failed so spectacularly at trying?

Actually, she's amused at something Cynthia said.  Although she would like one, Amethyst currently doesn't have a husband or boyfriend, mostly thanks to the demands of her job.

Oh, I see.  Well, I can imagine that somebody's going to be a happy and lucky guy one of these days.  Also, the only time I've ever seen that look on a woman was in the situation I described.  LOL.

That's more times than I've seen it, myself, to be honest, so I really don't know what sort of situations would give such an expression from a woman.  Hopefully, sometime, I can finish up this set of brain squeezin's and see if people agree that it's appropriate.

Oh, you know.  Things like she's trying to do something and he decides to take over doing it for her only he doesn't know what he's doing.  (In other words, he's trying to impress her.)  It's quite the popular way to show men as being idiots on TV and in movies.

Ah, not one of my favorite tropes, to be honest.  True, it does have some basis in real life, but popular media tends to overdo it.  After all, loathe as they are to admit it, women are just as capable of being equally idiotic, and men aren't so consistently incompetent.

Furthermore, I don't like it when people take things away from me (especially when they asked me to do it in the first place) and do it for me themselves as if I were some incompetent incapable of performing the simplest tasks.  I'm not inclined to pull that sort of thing back on a woman.

I know what you mean.  I really despise it when that happens to me.  I'm not really competent in doing a lot of manual labor type of things but, if I ask someone and he refuses to assist me when I ask, I don't want him/her deciding to take over.  GRRRR!  How I hate that.

That definitely is very irritating.  Equally annoying is when they ask me to do something but then tell me I don't have to do it right away.  Which is fine as I can then schedule it for later, in the cooler evening before I take a bath.  Then they turn around and do the thing themselves instead of letting me do it according to my schedule.  If you're going to do it anyway, why'd you ask me to do it in the first place?

You got that right.  I've experienced that numerous times, especially with my elderly mother who asks me to wash the dishes when she's not feeling well but, when I go to wash the dishes later, they're already washed.

With me, it was my dad.  I don't think he meant anything by it, but it still felt frustrating.  And who knows how annoying he found it in return. :(
