Referenced the zone in Roadside Picnic by Arkady & Boris Stugatsky, it is a good book. The concepts within the book are similar to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R Game series.

The anomaly zone is an area within The Valley of the Rio Grande. The area has consisted of high energy fluxations that introduce other little anomalies known to be either electrical, gravitational, chemical, and thermal as it goes along. This area has significance to load as it was the same area where Dallas and they met on the lower spectrum of that area. Dallas is a freak just like load, ( Refer to earlier pictures with the black Charizard, with a cowboy hat permanently welded onto his head and green eyes for Dallas, and a Lucario with purple eyes, tower hat welded onto the head, very easy to spot even during the day)

Lore of the world: The planet is full of these zones that emit strange anomalies, however the first zone to ever form wasn't physical it was entirely digital was around 2032 known as the glitched server incident where a server of virtual reality users experienced some abnormal issues with their hardware. reports of strange sightings within the servers without any names, ID, IP, etc could not be retrieved by callbacks either. 2043, the second zone formed in Trenton New Jersey,  2049 the third zone formed in California and quickly moved between North and South Carolina because even whatever the zone is has standards. 2059 the fourth zone formed in Iowa, and others formed in other states but the biggest one formed in 2097, and that zone is located within the good old Texas. What was also not realized was that the zone was spreading outwards and fast to other parts of the world, however, the most famous ones and technically the biggest zones would be located within the United States.

What these zones produce: The zones are strange and mysterious in how they function but one thing is clear the anomalies that are produced there seem to follow the laws of physics but at the same time bend them at will. Anomalies are dangerous to be around but some have mysterious properties that allow people to enter an anomaly that acts like a wormhole, not sure how the mathematical version of a fuck you physics would take you across the world but it's there. But the strangest thing to ever come out of the zones is the slimes aka komas. People are aware of the slimes but not much information on how they came to be or how they function is known. In fact, nobody knows how these zones came to be, but it is now a way of life. People adapt years on end to this ever-changing environment.

Note: These aren't exactly story points so much it's just what happens around.

What occupies the world after these expansions:  Slimes and Pokemon Mainly ( populations of humans were drastically reduced over time due to major blockage of air routes and land routes via anomalies, food and water don't magically end up on your shelves. farmers have an easier time adapting and surviving off the land, survivalist had an easier time surviving off the wildlife. With major routes blocked off this means that transport trucks cant properly transport food or water and things really started to fail. What sparked the Raid on the island, later on, was the scapegoat that the slimes are purely responsible for these anomalies forming, however, the truth is the slimes are just a byproduct of the zone just like the anomalies.  They were pushed off their island by the U.S.A and forced into Russian soils where the island is now being used as farmland full of buttfucking anomalies. this would only prove to be a delay for the inevitable collapse for the USA and for the rest of the world to come. Russia has been exposed to these anomalies as well along with Ukraine but benefited from the slimes flocking to their soils.

Effect on Pokemon: Pokemon have been hit pretty hard too but not as bad as the humans, pokemon for example like Lucario has to watch where he or she hunts and adapt to the constant changes to the lands and routes where these anomalies lie. Radioactive areas of the zone have been proven a problem for food to grow and thrive. Pokemon have formed a symbiosis with the slimes where they can provide well between each other and other humans that are surviving off the land.

The economy: Mad fucked, food and waters and other transports are very important, without trucking or air transport being blocked off by anomalies it would mean that things are at a total grinding halt. Those who don't have any survival skills or agriculture skills starved to death or died other ways from mass panic. Russia is less affected by this but still pretty noticeable, at least countries with less infrastructure have more access over their lands as they are not hindered as much by the blockage of pathways. The U.S has tried to produce vehicles that could go through the anomalies but anomalies are much much more dangerous than they look. With the chemical anomalies could melt through your transport, with gravitational it could crush you to death, with electrical it could zap you ass to death, and for thermal just could turn you into a burnt crisp. The speed at which the economy fell was around 3 weeks.
