Hey guys! Just wanted to let ya know that we’ve decided to release our Sonic fan game Chronicles of Acorn to play and try out now! We were hoping to do a lot more before putting out a playable Alpha, because it is still very raw and unfinished, but we and others put a lot into the character sprites, character art, music, maps, and battle mechanics, and it’s been sitting awhile now just collecting dust, so we figured why not! Seems like a waste to just let it sit without being played!
So if you like classic Final Fantasy style RPG’s and you’re a fan of the Archie/Satam sonic universe, then check it out, it’s completely free to play now! Just check the links below for more details and to get the game for yourself.
It’s always been a passion project for me and Blazeymix, and though we don’t get as much time anymore to really work on it, we still do hire for art occasionally to get closer to a completed first chapter. Currently we have a few new battle sprites finished that need to be added yet, so we’ve fired up a Discord for CoA where we can drop updates to the game and chat with you guys about the game development! Sally and Bunnie are currently playable, and Fiona will be added to the game next, so if you’re interested in future updates to the game, be sure to check out the Discord where we’ll put out future builds and fixes and such. We’re on there pretty regularly now, and we love hearing your feedback! :)
Also, just wanna give a shout out to the many great artists who helped with the game so far, cause you guys have been really helpful and awesome and it’s always been appreciated! Our sprite and asset artists KetchupWithFries, Shelby, Pedrovin, the sprites continue to blow me away as it’s an art form I deeply admire but could never do, so thanks for your amazing work! If I’ve forgotten anyone who helped with sprites, and I know there’s at least a couple, please let me know and if you have art accounts somewhere I’ll be sure to add the links here as well. Our amazing composer Cilantro, who made for us a complete original soundtrack for the game, we always loved it and still love listening to the tracks, so thanks again for the amazing music! And to
who made the beautiful art above that serves as the title screen for CoA, thanks again for the awesome job, and thanks again everyone! :)
And to our patrons over the years, thank you guys for all the support on this and other projects! We’ll keep chipping away at it for you guys! To our former high tier supporters and bad guy design contest winners, we never forgot you guys, we’ll get your characters and bad guy designs in the game yet! Just wanted to say thanks for your patience and support, the art and music could never have been done without you guys, so thank you all. As a strictly fan project, sadly life makes it hard to put much time into things we can’t really support ourselves with in the end, but I’m still pretty determined as a fan to get at least the first chapter up to knothole completed. Walkin around a fully realized RPG Knothole village, chatting with a village full of NPC’s, including a recognizable Sonic cast, goin on side quests through the forest, that’d be pretty damn sweet for old fans like me, and I’m sure for a few of you as well. Anyways, thanks again, and keep in touch on the Discord for anything new we add. :)
are working on a furry adult Pokemon Visual Novel they’re close to finishing up the first chapter for, featuring original furry characters, with tons of art and pinups available already on there, so get access today to check it all out, the support is greatly appreciated!
The amount of detail, music, and little thing in the game is superb, excellent job to you guys! I'm sure it ain't easy taking the time to do this kind of project so my hats off to you and the team.
Admittedly though, I'm not a fan of RPG's and after playing about 30-45mins into the game I'm still not a fan of RPG's.
Like you mentioned in your description, this was meant for people who loved FF's gameplay and I'm sadly not one of them. I gave it a shot just because of the SatAM elements, but it wasn't enough for me to keep me invested in playing any further after my first death.
To be fair, it's hard for someone like myself to get into this kind of gameplay when personally I'm used to the go-action of classic Sonic games.
This is just coming from me, keep going on the project. I can see a lot of love and care was given in this so keep it up!

Hey, thanks for playing and thanks for the honest feedback! :) Yes, it’s very different from the classic Sonic game format, gameplay is more for the RPG enthusiasts. We’re currently working on including more Sonic elements, like springs, speed pads, power ups, and we’re currently putting rings around the maps that give health, boost AP and are spendable at Knothole. They have the classic ring chime sound effect when you pick them up, something just so satisfying about that sound! They also serve to guide you around the map in a way, makes exploring a lot more enjoyable for sure.
When we have a new build available with all the new elements, you should give it another try! Feedback like yours would be really excellent for letting us know if the game is fun for people who are not so much into the RPG aspects. :)
We’re also adding some drawn cutscenes that I’m currently working on finishing, which will play out like comic panels between some sections, gives the player some visuals to enjoy. Should add more depth to the story elements, give you some visuals as a sort of reward/incentive for continuing onward.
We’ll probably post another advert when the new build is available, so stay tuned and thanks again! :)

I'm glad you're okay with the feedback! I'll be more than happy to give it another go when ya'll release a new build.
To be honest, I simply don't have the patience for long level-up grinds with the constant enemies at (what it feels like) every turn, when I just want to explore and interact.
Boss fights that you have to (what feels like) stacking move-sets and items, when instinctively I just wanna button mash the enemies/bosses to death, haha.
Again, this is just coming from myself who's mostly into go-action games than the sit and grind rpg's, two entirely different gameplays that are just incompatible.

Hey! I hear ya! and yeah, this game might not be your cup of tea then! Don't get me wrong, we love this kind of feedback! Heck! I'm just super happy you tried it out :) It means so much to me! I've put a lot of time and work into it! Into designing the gameplay, balancing things.. just everything! I understand though, RPGs are slower, they are more complex and you can't just bop an enemy like you could in classic Sonic games, I get that! I think one thing I like about CoA is that it doesn't use those amazingly powerful characters that just destroy enemies with one bounce! You gotta use weaker characters that have to fight the enemies on a more ground level, there's just something cool about that to me when I think of it that way. Sally, Bunnie, none of them were ever strong like Sonic, they had to think on their feet and use their strengths to defeat bots. I like that.
Anyway! From a gameplay standpoint.. ya! I definitely designed it to force you to use your skills and NEVER spam moves hahaha, I put a lot of time into making sure every skill has a purpose. I know random battles can be much. I didn't really design the game to require grinding, as long as you explore to find most things and play out every random encounter, you should level up on a proper pace! I will say, that I still get that it'd just be more fun to explore without the interruptions. In fact, in a future build, you will be able to liberate each zone in the game and by doing so, remove random encounters within the zone altogether! :) I've also been working on some stuff outside of battles to make it feel more Sonic! Anyway, I'm not saying all this to convince you to give it another chance. I get that at the end of the day, you like what you like and don't enjoy what you don't! I respect it! Your feedback means a lot, it really does!

I appreciate ya'll take the time to read out the feedback! This game is a work of art between the both of you and it really shines!
Don't get me wrong, I love playing Sally in Sonic 3 because she is a harder character to play with (also because it's Sally XD ) it changes the game aspect to a more action-strategy. So, I do love to play as other Sonic characters especially characters that we never get to see in official games that's why I wanted to play.
I have to say, for someone like myself who's basically jumping (impromptu) into an RPG gameplay without any experience of the lingo (I still don't know what a 'DPS'/'Buffs'/'Debuff' are/is) I can literally say I had no idea what I was doing.
I would have to at least suggest (at minimum) a visual tutorial, especially because the game is more tailored to the (seemingly hardcore/advanced) RPG gamer who already knows what to expect, than say a baby-beginner like myself.
If I could offer something, that would be my two cents. I will be on the lookout for the next (public) build and am willing to give it another go.

Sure. xD Though I do suggest people join the server if they want keep up with updates and such, but it’s all good. I will let you guys know this version was an old build of the game, before we lost a bunch of progress when a hard drive got fried, so it’s missing an end credits and few map areas are unfinished but you can explore them, that sorta thing. When you get to a cliff you can’t jump from, that’s the end of the current build, so just so y’all know, there’s no getting off the cliff, that’s the end for now.
Blazeymix is working on putting back in everything we lost and more, and the server is where we’ll be updating things regularly, so keep it in mind. :)
Messaging ya now.

The main game will be SFW for everyone, for the most part, maybe some mild nudity and such, the game is slightly more mature just not smutty. Then we plan to make a NSFW version later on, adding some extra missions that will get smutty. So there will be two versions, so everyone can play. Will be awhile yet for the 18+ sections, but we’re workin hard on things, with a new build coming soon, so hopefully not to long. :)
