On the whole, Emer wasn't especially fond of balls. She'd much rather be out on patrol with grandmother Deirdre than hang around eating canapés and making small talk with pretentious nobles. She really didn't expect tonight to be any different, but that was before she met Cecil. Lord Cecil, son of the Duke of Cloudhold caught her interest immediately. Maybe it was because he was the first bat she'd ever met, maybe it was the sweet way he blushed when she smiled at him, but she found herself enjoying his company. When he asked her to dance, she accepted immediately, hoping that he wouldn't notice she wasn't quite as graceful as a princess ought to be, or that he wouldn't mind.
They spun and pirouetted through first one waltz, and then another, and though they scarcely spoke the whole time, she couldn't shake the feeling he was a kindred spirit, of sorts. She hoped that her mother and Cecil's father could come to an agreement on some kind of treaty, so she might see him again.
While Emer would still probably pass on wearing a dress if she could, it can be fun sometimes, yeah. She still wishes her Mom would let her wear a sword to these events, but as Ciara has explained, what counts as politely dressed in her own country might not be seen quite the same way somewhere else.
