This is the first chapter of the first volume of R-Type Saga, a pencil-drawn comic covering the events of the R-Type franchise. Familiarity with the source material is not required to enjoy this work.

It is the 22th century and the universe is not a nice place for humans. Humanity's artificial intelligences have a tendency to go crazy and genocidal, every contact recorded with aliens was hostile (with the aliens often having nonsensical, unbelievably petty reasons to attack), and in general the universe has made a sport of making humanity's existence unpleasant. Still, humanity has soldiered on and spread across the stars.

Then, one fateful day, first contact is made with a new alien intelligence in the Perseus Veil. Calling itself the Bydo Empire, it follow the normal pattern and turn out irrationally hostile for no apparent reason.

However, the Bydo are not like other foes humanity faced before and humanity's forces falter before a foe they cannot hope to fight, or even slow down...

After years of work, on a military research base in the solar system on orbit of planet Uranus, scientists and engineers put the finishing touch on what they hope shall put an end to the Bydo's unstoppable advance.

In a hostile world, as the cyber-connector merge flesh to machine, the R-9A Arrowhead is born...

I've seen this in private, but will say it here, your pencil work for this comic is fantastic, It'd be amazing to see it inked and colored!

I am glad you think so! I'm working on chapter 2 at the moment. In fact, it's near completion ; I'm drawing the "boss fight" so to speak. Once it's done, it will be up.

I hope readers will find the comic to improve as time goes on!

the more i stare at this comic - is that some sort of "infinite life cheat" feature (but keeps the memory/experience intact)?

This is actually based off the trans-dimensional drive thing. R-crafts can canonically travel not just through time but through time. Essentially, whenever Arrowhead is lethally damaged, her emergency systems activate and throw her back in time violently.

This is some incredibly cute stuff here. It reminds me a lot of the old Nintendo Power comics. Well done!!

I am glad! Chapter 2 is nearly done. Once it is finished, I will post it as well. It's rather more detailed!
