I think the closest we've got is that a lot of people use "@" as an "A." But that's not nearly consistent enough to be a rule

That's true.  Sometimes, they arrange a few symbols that look similar to letters as a sort of pseudo "L33t" word, but usually, the profanitype just appear to be randomly scattered about.

There's also swearing by rhyming. I know a few artists who would set it up so a rhyme clearly telegraphed the censored word.

There's also anagramming the words in question into unvulgar words.  I think DC's Doom Patrol often did that.
