It is now the end of the school day, and Sonic is on his way home in his sister's car with said sister in the driver's seat and younger brother Manic in the back seat. Besides the sound of Manic's muffled music thumping from his earphones and the rumbling of the road, there was complete silence. To pass the time it took to get home Sonic decided to mildly entertain himself by scrolling through social media. He saw the usual posts that would come from the different mobians he followed both big and small; from the short comedy skits by those of internet fame to selfies from a couple of his peers in school, nothing really seemed to grab his attention. Well, that was until he came across a recent post from who he determined was Knuckles' new beau, Rouge. It appeared to be a series of candid shots of none other than Shadow himself as it looked like the hedgehog was trying to avoid getting his picture taken.
Sonic subconsciously allowed his lips to curl into a meek smile at the last of the three photos that featured the dark hedgehog being playfully teased by the bat herself as she moved one corner of his mouth with an index finger in an upwards motion, essentially forcing him to smile. A subtle giggle resonated from his chest along with a pinkening of his cheeks.
"What'cha lookin' at?'', his sister asked noticing the teen's smile.
Sonic then scrambled to hide the phone screen from her field of view. Embarrassingly, he fumbled with the device until it fell onto the car's carpeting. Sonia took note of this as this wasn't a common occurrence with her brother, even if he were to be completely taken off guard.
Once finally having control of his nerves Sonic retrieved his phone and replied with, "N-Nothing important... just something dumb".
"It didn't seem like it was something dumb a couple of seconds ago. In fact, it looked like you were very interested in whatever it was", Sonia pried.
"Well, I'm telling you it's nothing, so can you please drop it?!'', Sonic roared while whipping his direction to face her directly.
The expression on her face was unexpected. He thought that she would want to bark back at him, or at the very least present a look of concern; but he was instead met with a cocky, yet playful smirk. Still carrying that expression, Sonia comes back with, "Sonic, you're blushing''
"What? No, I'm not!'', his scowled expression intensified as he clenched the phone to his chest.
Sonia continued to smirk at the azure teen for a moment before glancing at the car's rear-view mirror.
"Hey, Manic!'', she called out to the youngest of the three, albeit unsuccessfully since he was still rocking out to his music.
"MANIC!''
His lime green spikes erected in shock as he startled.
"GAH! What is it, Sonia?'', he took out his right earbud, ``It was just gettin' to the guitar solo.''
She sighed in response to his naivete. "I was trying to tell you that it looks like someone here has a crush~'', she answered with excitement.
His amber irises switched between the two as he tried to figure out who she was talking about. "...you?''
"No Manic, I'm talking about our brother!'', Sonia explained.
The young teen leaped in his seat grabbing the backs of both front seats, being restrained only by his seat belt. "Holy shit! Really?!''
"Language!'', Sonia scolded, "And would you sit back down?!''
"Heh... sorry sis'', he apologized while slowly leaning back into his seat.
After only a couple seconds of silence Manic couldn't help himself from prying even further. Looking directly to his brother he asked, "So is it true?''
"What?''
"That you have a crush on someone, duh!''
Sonic didn't like lying to anybody, especially not to his family, but he just couldn't bring himself to revealing his sexuality. Not just yet.
"I don't want to talk about it...''
"Aw come on, bro!'', Manic whined. "It's so fu-''
Sonia glared in his direction.
"... fffreakin' obvious''
The magenta hedgehog once again sighed due to her youngest sibling's antics.
Looking back at the azure teen she saw how closed off he was. He was obviously avoiding any eye contact, even through the rear-view mirrors. He held a tight close grip on his phone shielding it from the other two's vision. And even though it had faded some, the pinkening of his cheeks still remained.
She couldn't help but feel a bit bad for her rapid teasing.
"No matter how crude our brother is Sonic he does have a point'', she consulted.
"I mean look at yourself! The stuttering, the blushing, and you being so defensive? You can't deny how this looks, Sonic''.
And there she goes again with the counseling talk. Sonic does not mind it most of the time when she goes onto her spiels, but he wasn't in the mood for any of it.
"Whatever. It's not like he would feel the same, anyway...''
His eyes immediately went wide once he realized what he said. Sonic let it slip that not only he did have a crush on someone, but also that it was a guy! The grip on his phone began to loosen as his palms started to sweat. The car came to a stop once pulling up to the driveway. "Um... Sonic?'', Sonia started. "Did you just say he?''
He's gonna have to do this again, and on the same day?! It was already overwhelming the first time with his best friend, but now his siblings?! He couldn't handle this right now. Using his quick speed Sonic bolted out the car, run through the front door upped the stairs, and shut himself into his bedroom after slamming and locking the door.
