Character Description
Bandit is a freelancer, a free spirit set to roam the stars in look for loot, jobs, adventure, and a good night out in town. He joined the Imperial navy young, and when he mustered out, he became a privateer. He lived that life until he lost his right arm and left eye, which was when he decided to become a freelancer.
Personality
Bandit is a free spirit. He doesn't like being tied down, and the only place he calls home is his ship, "The Nomad". He is quick to jump on opportunities, even when they may not be the best of ideas, and is something of a daredevil. Retreat is rarely an option for the optimistic pup.
Likes/Dislikes
Bandit loves life, and if that involves a bit of law breaking, so be it. He loves women, drink, money, gambling, fighting, and exploring.

He despises being held down. Long contracts and places like jail are his least favorite things in the world. He also dislikes pirates heavily, as he lost his arm fighting a pirate. He hates being called Arlan.
Background/History
Arlan was born on a backwater world. Named after his father, he soon adopted the moniker Bandit, given to him by his friends for his mask like face markings. When his father left his family, he permanently gave up on his given name and demanded that he be called Bandit. His mother tried to give his family a good life, but she struggled with making ends meet, and he was eventually given to the foster system so he would be able to eat.

He never did well in any of his homes. He would constantly be away, and missed much of his school. Constantly disciplined, he would run from his homes, until he was adopted by Col. Emett Avery, who, despite feuding with the stubborn child, would not give up on the boy. Eventually Bandit came to an grudging admiration of the Colonel, and decided to join the navy because of him.

Getting off world was the best and worst thing that ever happened to Bandit. It opened new opportunities for him, and while he wasn't an exceptional sailor in the discipline department, his skills and abilities did earn him enough admiration that he wasn't just kicked out of the Navy. However, the moment his contract was up, Bandit mustered out, and decided to instead join a privateer crew, hunting down pirates that frequented the outer rims and nebulae of the galaxy.

He did much better in the slightly less restrictive world of privateering, and quickly became one of his captain's favorites. He was taught how to pilot a ship and be an officer, and while he did not enjoy being an officer, piloting became a passion for him. He soon became the helmsman, and was noted as a damned fine one as that.

That all came to an abrupt end during a boarding action. The pirate crew managed to push his crewmates back aboard the ship, and they had to fight tooth and nail to keep their own ship from being taken. Bandit stayed at his captain's side, protecting his friend until the captain of the enemy vessel, a pirate known as Reaver, cut off his arm, plucked out his eye, killed his captain, and was about to kill him when his crewmates were able to push them back. However, the pirate was able to escape back into the void, and Bandit was taken to a nearby planet where he spent close to a year recovering from his wounds.

As soon as he was able to, however, the pup was back up and on his feet. He took his savings, purchased "The Nomad", a small exploration ship, and began his career of freelance work and trade.
Relatives/Family
He has lost all contact with his 3 brothers and 2 sisters, mother, and father.

His adopted father, Col Emett Avery, is respected, but he doesn't come home often.

mate: Heidi Weiss, who he affectionately calls "Dee"
World/Setting
Bandit belongs to a retro-fi universe. Things are very Victorian in style, and worlds are often rather Feudal in nature, despite belonging to an over-arching empire. Think Treasure Planet meets Firefly.
Body
Lean and fit, Bandit keeps himself in good shape. His right side is scarred from the surgeries that removed what was left of his arm and gave him the prosthetic. He is a classic tri color, rather than a merle coated tri color. His left eye is cybernetic and glows softly. Both eyes are blue.
Clothing
Bandit still wears his old privateering uniform. His right arm of the coat is ripped off, as is the right arm of his shirt, allowing his prosthetic its maximum mobility and preventing material from catching and jamming its sensitive mechanical bits. He wears a red double breasted vest beneath the coat, and a dress shirt beneath it. His coat and pants have flourescent red stripes on them. His long boots have gravity clamp equipment added to them, allowing him to lock down to a surface while in a 0g environment.
Accessories
Bandit has a ring in his left ear, and some of the cybernetics from his eye implant can be seen on the left side of his face. He carries a pistol cross draw on his right hip, and his sword on a bandolier holster that hangs on his left.
