PokeTeam Go Episode 4: Bulking Up
Back in the village of Leafy Creek, the three pokemon have entered a gym. It’s a large building with several fields for battles and a lot of equipment for strength. In this place, Benny helps the two boys level up in terms of muscle and skill. On one of the turfs, she helps them practice on their dodging and their basic combat skills, such as punching, kicking, and bite moves. With a bit of knowledge and endurance, Zach and Nate prove successful in the basic combat.
Benny nearly stumbles to the side, taking a seat on the bench. “Oh! Wow, you boys are incredible.”
“You okay?” asks Zach. “Do you need help?”
“No, I’m good,” she replies. “Just exhausted, that’s all.”
“We took a lot out of you, huh?” Nate questions. “Let’s take a break and we’ll train more, okay?”
“Sounds like a plan,” agrees Benny.
“Wait,” Zach interrupts. “That’s it for our training?” Benny turns to him and queries what he means. “Aren’t we going to learn something else? Like maybe some pokemon moves?”
“Benny’s too tired right now, Zach,” Nate tells him. “I don’t think she’ll be able to help you with that.”
“Yeah,” Benny adds. “And besides, I don’t know anything about riolu movesets. It would be hard to train you since I don’t know what your type moves are.” She then spots a machoke across the way, talking with a nuzleaf. “Although, I know another way of helping you out.” She raises her arm and catches the machoke’s attention. “Yoohoo! Over here!” The machoke stops what he’s doing and marches over to the three pokemon. Zach and Nate stare up at him as he stands before them, paralyzed with fear. “Heya, Manny. Good to see you’re around.”
“You too, Benny.” The machoke smiles and fists bumps her. “Come back for some more lessons with the old Manster?”
Benny chuckles. “Actually, no. I’m here to help some friends bulk up with their fighting skills.” She introduces them to the machoke. “This is Nate, the fennekin I’ve told you so much about. And the riolu’s Zach, he’s a new friend of mine.” The two boys say “hello” to him and wave.
“Name’s Manny,” the machoke utters. “Any friend of Benny’s is a friend of mine.”
“Manny, I want to know if you could help. Zach here wants to learn some moves from the riolu moveset. Think you could aid him with that?”
“Course! I’ve trained many riolus here in this gym. What kind of moves are we talking about here?”
Benny looks to Zach. “What would you like to learn, Zach?”
“Hm…” Zach begins to ponder. “I do want to learn more about quick attack. I mean, I used it once before, and I’d like to acquire that. I also think learning aura sphere could be handy.”
“Unfortunately, aura sphere is only available to lucarios,” says Manny. “Quick attack I have no problem training you on. Though, riolus possess the ability to use force palm, counter, and metal claw.”
“Oh!” Zach lights up. “I like the sound of those moves! Sure!”
“Come over here.” Manny leads the riolu into an empty ring and stands across from him. “Okay, now the first thing I want you to do is enable your aura.”
Zach tilts his head sideways. “My what?”
“Riolus use their aura to sense danger and scan their surroundings. Their aura is also used to enable them with battle.”
“Um, okay… How do I do that?”
“Listen closely and do as I say. Close your eyes.” The riolu listens and follows what he asks, closing his eyes. “Put your paws together.” Zach does so. “Now, take a deep breath in, and out. Concentrate your thoughts.”
“My gosh…” Energy begins to collect with the riolu. “I can sense a lot around me… I feel… enlightened… and learning…”
“Stay focused, Zach. This is going to help you learn your moves. Imagine them all; force palm, counter, feint, metal claw, quick attack, rock smash, and all the other riolu moves.” With his aura ability, Zach’s able to obtain knowledge of his moveset. He opens his eyes after finished. “Okay, let’s do force palm first. Take your palm and jut it forward.” Zach extends his paw with his palm facing out. “Good! Next move, we’ll do quick attack. You said you know how to use it, right?” Zach nods. “Show me.” The riolu performs his move, dodging attacks the machoke throws at him. “You are making excellent progress. Now, hit me with a counter!” Once he throws a rock at the riolu, the jackal uses his counter ability and kicks the rock back. “Metal claw!” Zach activates his claws, which turn to metal, and proceeds to practice them on the machoke. “You’re doing good, Zach! Let me see your rock smash, now!” The riolu proceeds with his final move, smashing a boulder in front of him. “Impressive! You have done well, Little Riolu.”
Zach smiles. “Thanks! Couldn’t have done it without your help.”
Benny appears beside the ring. “So, how’s our little fighter here? He ready to take on big pokemon, Manny?”
“Beginner’s stage,” Manny tells her. “He needs to work on his moves a little more, but I’d say he’s about ready for anything that comes his way.”
“And with some of the basic commodities like punching, kicking, and dodging, we’ll be ready for our next adventure, should we be clobbered by thieves.”
“Adventure? You’re taking up being an adventurer? I thought you said you were going to stay selling your gracious potions.”
“Things change,” Benny states. “Gets boring here in town. So, my friends and I thought about going out and doing exciting stuff. We needed to bulk up with the amount of bandits around.”
“I don’t blame you. Especially with the ghost bandits lurking around, stalking and hunting on innocent travelers. Team Rescuers puts in a lot of effort to keep them back and away.”
“Exactly why we’re here. We need to keep doing some missions.”
“Well, I happen to know one you could do. Team Rescuers hasn’t been doing too much around here, but maybe you guys can.” She and Zach asks him what he means. “The little pichu from the Green Team has disappeared and no one knows where she is. She was last seen in the Meadow of Colors. Team Rescuers has stated they’re doing all they can to find her, but they haven’t turned up successful. If you find her, there’s a big payout for you in return.”
“A rescue mission?” Zach repeats. “Seems like something out of our boundaries.”
“Rescue missions have big rewards,” Manny says. “You guys could take it, If you’re looking for the money. The pichu’s poster is on the job board.”
Benny turns and notices Nate struggling with some fire moves on a dummy. “Eh, Manny. Could I ask you a favor real quick? Could you teach the fennekin boy to fight better? Also perhaps throw in a teaching of ember for him?”
“I can get through to him,” Manny tells her. “It’s going to cost you extra, though.”
“How’s a bunch of my special strength remedies sound?”
“You know I love your fancy brewing. It’s a deal.” The machoke heads over to the fennekin. “Fennekin! I’ve got a bone to pick with you! You need to learn ember!”
Zach looks to Benny. “Are we seriously going to do a rescue mission?”
“I’m not really too certain of it,” Benny answers. “But, I like the sound of a big payout. And after some training, we’ll take on any bandit that comes our way. We just have to make sure Team Rescuers doesn’t find out about it.”
“Who are Team Rescuers, anyway? Are they a rescue squad?”
“Yep. They’re Leafy Creek’s defense and rescue pokemon. They also happen to be paying customers of mine, too. However, they are pretty picky and arrogant from my experience. I don’t really care too much, though, since they’ve been buying huge loads of my potions.”
“I guess we’ll head out on this. Might be good. Shall we head out?” The two watch as Nate trains with the machoke. Manny continuously screams at him to keep going and to put more effort. “Oh, this is going to take a bit, is it?”
“Oh yeah,” Benny claims. “I would just sit back and watch right now.”
