-A prologue-

Conner had worked on a little project in private for quite a while. The tall German shepherd always made sure to conceal what he was working on from his little bro, not wanting him to see the gift before it was even ready. It was meant to be combined with the ancient Gem that Conner -finally- decided to give to his bro and finally see what the fox could do with it. The outfit was slightly more revealing than the Crimson Vulpine outfit... completely on accident! Conner told himself that anyway.. It featured several hidden areas to hold tools like little scalpels, files, lock picks; stuff  that was light and that could be easily hidden within the gloves and boots in case Fawks needed something on hand without having an overly cumbersome utility belt. It fit his little bro's style a lot more that way. The costume also had “wing flaps” like the first suit to make jumps longer, and falling more controllable. The shep put in what he felt would be helpful, and even made the suit out of his finalized synthetic fabric to keep it light, yet durable and form fitting to match up with all that agility the fox had.

The mask was black and would adhere to someone's face thanks to a special glue of Conner's design that would hold securely all night. With a spray the mask would bind to Fawks's face, and with the spray of special solvent, would come right off! It allowed for something that still covered the face, but wouldn't slip off unless something messed with the adhesive somehow.. The belt buckle had a hidden dial pad that would link up with an ear piece and microphone in the collar for communications. Which brings us to the last piece of the puzzle. Conner had made a black leather collar to go with the suit. He had attached the gem to the back of it, sticking square studs all around to keep the power source secretive, and allow Conner to add a few more options within the hollow, but still heavy studs. Within the collar was a tracking device, as well as a defense system to help repel people from removing it. This was the gift that Fawks got on his 17th birthday.

*********************************

With the gem around the vulpine's neck, Fawks would take a short break from fighting crime to get himself adjusted to his new abilities. He only used them once while still in his home town, but it was not a good night for the young hero, a story for another time perhaps.. Suffice to say, it didn't take much to learn the power was draining on his body and mind. Conner even showed concern that is might actually do more harm than good after learning more about the gem's properties and history, but Fawks would ignore this talk. It made him feel stronger and better able to help others he cared for. Like he could protect everyone from the bad of the world.. With a heavy heart, but a sense of adventure, the fox left his town of Broodwell to travel to another city to make a name for himself. Go to college. Train his body and mind to better cope with his new persona!

-A wild hero appears!-

Fawks took a deep breath and felt the warm August wind blow through his fur, as he stepped out onto a rooftop near the college he was attending. It was about 11 PM when the masked fox ruffled his hair to give it a bit more of a wild look, looking out onto the city streets with that familiar feeling filling him again. It had been over a year since he was in costume in any official sense. It felt good to be out and in a mask again.. though he tugged at it to make sure it wouldn't come off easily. He trusted his brother's crazy inventions, but it just felt weird not having a strap around his head. The strong, athletic looking fox did some stretches to limber himself up in the refreshing night air. It was just gonna be a night of sight seeing, but you never know when crime will pop up!

With an eager grin on his face the fox took off in a run; leaping into the air with his arms extended. The fabric of his “wings” caught the wind to act almost like a glider! ...a heavy, clunky one.. but it still worked. He could steer himself a bit, and he hung in the air for far longer than what he could normally do in a leap. He'd land with a thud on the roof of another building and gracefully roll to break the landing. He scaled up walls with the help of windows, fire escapes and gutters. The fox used the cityscape as his big  playground. He was never as good a fighter as his brother, but when it came to agility and speed, he was far better. With a bit of working out to help build those muscles, it normally gave him the edge he needed in a fight. Well, that and his quick thinking. He may not have been in action for a while, but his body was remembering all the old movements well enough. He was once the Crimson Vulpine after all! The kid dynamo that fought crime with Twilight Hound! This was like second nature, though it was still a rush to pull off these stunts through a city. The hero loved the feeling of the wind as it whipped past his face. Always so peaceful...

It seemed like a quiet night. Fawks thought for sure he'd run into someone as he traveled around. He picked this place -because- it wasn't uncommon for masked vigilantes to save the day. It would make it easier for him to, he figured, blend in would be the term. One in particular had caught Fawks's eye, but he had no idea how to contact any of them short of committing a crime.. not gonna happen.  “So you're sure other heroes are in this town, Twilight?” Fawks had hit a button in his buckle, setting up a line between him and his brother back in Broodwell. He didn't need to talk loudly to be heard thankfully. “I mean.. I haven't seen much of anything since I got here!”

~“Been there.. a week? You never learn patience, do you!? GUK!”~ A thud could be heard in the mic.

“Hehe... caught you in the middle of something, Twi?”

~“Oh, just some of the normal street clean-up!”~

~“Who the 'ell you talkn to!?”~ Shouted someone else in the background

~“My inner thoughts. They are a more interesting conversationalist, scum!”~ Followed by a shout of pain and what he could only assume was the collapse of a body.
~“I'm gonna have to talk with you later. Twilight, out.”~ There was a click and the line went dead.

Fawks wasn't too surprised over the hang-up. Conner was always way more serious, and not much for conversations while on duty. Though really.. Him? Not patient? Psssssh, the fox thought to himself. It's not like that one time... Then suddenly Spirit's ears perked when he heard what sounded like a male whimpering, and the cackle of thugs up to no good. Not too far away at all. Time for some justice! The fox jumped across to another rooftop as quietly as he could, trying to get a look down into the alley below where he heard the sounds coming from. The masked hero spotted what looked like three casually dressed males. Hoodies, loose fitting pants.. All ganged around a colt that was wearing a rather odd looking yellow and black outfit, but it was torn up and his face looked bloody. Looked like that poor guy was way over his head or just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Either way this wasn't gonna stand! The fox judged the distance, about five stories up. The hero's suit should slow his fall ...probably just enough!

Like a bird of prey swooping down, the fox fell through the air. Before anyone could react, his feet landed square against largest of them, a boar with scar over one eye. The biggest of the villains was flattened  face first against the wet asphalt next to the poor, downed stallion. Spirit acted quickly to not to let his full weight hit the boar's spine, using the rest of his momentum to roll off almost as soon as he hit. The impact and shout made the other two jump back in surprise to get a good look at their green clad adversary! “Foxes just seem to be raining from the sky today!” Smirked Spirit as the short, skinny otter quickly pulled out a gun. His eyes looked red like something had been sprayed in his face.. mace?Must be why he had such a sour, on edge expression. Spirit stood there with his arms extended to shield the beat up equine behind him. “Today's forecast? A hailstorm of fists!”

“Wh... what the fuck are you, nancy boy!?” The otter's voice sounded panicked, and his arm shook with the gun held right at Spirit's face, cocked and clearly loaded.

Fawks assumed the remark was because of his rather over the top outfit.. which the hero enjoyed. What's more demoralizing than being taken down by some green elf? “I am the spirit of justice.. but you can call me, Spirit Force!”

-Blending in? Not so much-

“S-spirit.. what? FUCK YOU SUPERS” The otter was past his limits, and before Fawks could say anything to disarm him, the shots of the pistol rang wildly in the alley! ...along with purple flashes that lit up the street and a fizzle after every bullet impact. The metal slugs were stopped short of harming the fox who had just managed to activate his “Spirit Aura” in time! The hero was expecting this sort of reaction from someone as jittery as this guy seemed to be, They stood there for a moment as the pistol  clicked pathetically in the fox's face. The otter's eyes bugged out and his mouth hung agape, looking like he was about to scream in fright as Spirit dusted himself off, pointing at the two thugs right after with a firm hand “Boys, put down your weapons before I put them down -for- you!”

“Oh hell nah, he's some kind of freak! What-- what the hell -are- you!?” The otter spat and tossed the empty gun at the glowing figure before him, which the hero blocked with an arm.

“Let's get out of here!” The croc that had just been standing off to the side until now grabbed his friend and they both turned to run, leaving the other guy where he was. The cowards!

Fawks lunged forward at the two to slam their heads together. Grabbing the hoods of their jackets to pull them back and then slam them forward hard against the ground, once their footing was lost. He grabbed two zip ties from his boots and tied them up after delivering a final blow to knock them out. The fox's heart was beating fast, thinking to himself, “Ugh.. that was close.. another millisecond and my head would be...” He stopped suddenly as a hard punch hit the back of his head, making the fox stagger forward with a grunt of surprise, and turn to see the boar he knocked down earlier standing once again.

“Heh! Looks like the purple fruit isn't so tough!” He sneered and fumbled around his pockets for a butterfly knife.

Fawks righted himself, groaning a bit before cracking his knuckles and commenting, “...You're -boaring- me!” The hero was somewhat off put by not striking the fear in this guy that he did in the others.. drunk perhaps? He moved to disarm the thug when all of a sudden the horse he was attempting to save had jumped onto the back of the boar!

“Ah hah! Got you this time!”

They struggled and the knife was knocked away before the injured horse was slammed unceremoniously back against a dumpster. Spirit quickly stepped in and snatched the arm of the thug who was in mid swing. Redirecting it to make the bully spin off balance. With a flurry of palm strikes the fox had locked up the villain's muscles and made him collapse in pain. With a finishing punch to the boar's jaw, he was down for the count. Spirit's gaze quickly turned to the colt who was nursing what must have been a massive headache.

“I had them! ….I just.. I... you're on fire!” The horse gained enough sense to finally jump when he saw the fox glowing with this wispy purple stuff coming off him like a slow motion fire.

Fawks was breathing a little heavier, but did his best to hide it. That aura had been up too long and he quickly relaxed himself to let it dissipate. The hero got a good look at the guy and examined around the area. There was a can of mace on the pavement and a bat with a painted-on insignia. He had a brown and white pattern all over his body and a long blonde mane that was mussed up and covering his hazel eyes a bit. The colt was wearing a tight fitting yellow and black leather jacket with the same insignia on it... Spirit smiled a bit and petted the horse on the head, who shook it off with a huff, “Ummm.. I think you've watched too many movies. Not to mention you uh.. you're missing something important.” Spirit tapped the mask over his eyes with a smirk, and the stallion quickly felt at his face with a panicked expression, “Oh shit!” The horse blushed hard as he looked around for the crumpled up fabric.

“Listen.. I admire your eagerness to serve! But please.. leave the hero work to others. I don't wanna see your cute face on the news as the latest murder victim...” The hero brushed the horse's face sweetly, giving him a confidant smile. Fawks was really pouring the charm into every word he spoke, which made the horse blush again and look away shyly. Sirens could be heard in the background, which was the masked fox's cue to get out of there!

“You're hurt. Let the paramedics help you, alright?” Spirit gazed right into those beautiful green eyes, hoping what he said would sink in. “What's your name?”

“C..Cody.” The colt said as he cradled his side... Might have had a bruised rib.

Spirit pulled Cody into his strong arms to give him a close, warm hug. The fox's paw drifting slowly up Cody's spine in such a way to make the colt shiver.. “I'm Spirit Force, Cody. I hear there is a group of heroes trying to keep the streets clean already.. We'll take care of things! Now.. please forgive me, Cody. Be safe, alright?” With the same smile on his face, he kissed the Colt on the forehead to distract the would-be hero, delivering a firm whack right at the back of his neck to make the horse gasp and black out.

“There.. Now they might just believe you to be a victim!” Fawks quickly took off Cody's jacket and grabbed the bat to toss them in the dumpster, before dashing up the wall of a building. He jumped up the fire escape seconds before the cops showed up to the scene. Thinking to himself, “Damn.. Broodwell didn't have that many of these things. I'm gonna get spoiled!” This was more than enough excitement for one night, the hero thought.

-A Watchful eye-

It was just another night for the imposing looking mutt as he ran across the rooftops of his city. His trench coat with insignia flapping in the wind while on patrol around a less watched part of town. The main troubles here were drunk college students causing problems for the city police. Most of them were harmless, but on occasion, more heroic sorts must lend a paw. The masked hero suddenly felt his phone buzzing at his hip. He was pretty sure he knew who it was, and quickly picked it up to answer.

~“Buck to Watchdog! There isn't much happening tonight so far, but I just heard a report of a convenience store in your area getting robbed by three males in hoodies! How cliché can you get? There were reports of another guy chasing them down an alley as well. Maybe you should check it out.”~

“I copy that, Buck. I guess it was rather... convenient of them. Heh”

~“...What was that, Watch? Just hurry up and get there!”~

“Understood. On my way!”

Watchdog got the address before hanging up and rushing off. It turned out to only be a few roads down, so if he was quick he could still catch the low-lives! After leaping between buildings, it wasn't long before he heard a scuffle taking place. The mutt crept quickly to the edge of the rooftop and peered down.. Only to be surprised and concerned by what he saw! On the asphalt by a dumpster was an injured looking horse, and a boar. Both were dazed and out of it, but what caught Watch's eye right away was an oddly dressed fox! Didn't seem to have much gear with him.. he seemed decently built though. That outfit of his fit him rather well in all the right ways, making the hero blush, it was kinda retro, like it was out of a comic.

In seconds the fox was standing between the two laid out on the pavement and an otter with a gun! The mutt could hear the fox make a quip that caused the mutt to groan. Another wanna-be on his streets?  Another guy out to kill himself... The masked mutt quickly took aim with his disk launcher, pointing it at the otter with the gun, but the bullets were fired before he could pull his weapon's trigger! Was he too late?  Eddy bit his lip and was about to jump right down there.. but then the mutt stopped suddenly. He noticed the odd purple aura around the fox, who was still very much standing! What was going on? The bullets hit him, didn't they? The armored hero lowered the launcher and just crouched in the shadows to watch the scene unfold; the fox had been trained. He carried himself like he had done this before, the mutt thought.. and what was that power he had? It stopped bullets like they were nothing but you could still punch him?

The action didn't take too long to wrap up. The three thugs in hoodies from the report were accounted for and tied up. The mutt did his best to listen in on the conversation, which wasn't too hard until the sirens started to get in the way. Eddy gathered that the equine was the one chasing after the thieves in the first place...he was the wanna-be? Then who the heck was -this- guy?

Watchdog blushed again when he saw the two of them get rather...close. Eddy was about to look away when the horse was quickly knocked out and laid to rest on the pavement! Was this fox really a hero? The sudden movement of the masked fox and the flashing lights of cop cars made Watch duck down to stay hidden. He was gonna follow this guy! Maybe learn where his hideout was. He whipped out his phone, doing his best to shadow the surprisingly agile fox. This guy also seemed quite adept at free running, too!

Watch flipped his phone out to make a call. The mutt panted as he jumped and tumbled across buildings, doing his best to not get too close and stay quiet. Something he excelled at. “Buck! Didn't get there in time.. but someone else did. Look up anything you can on-  I think he called himself Spirit.. Fox? Spirit something with an F! He's running around in a green outfit and he doesn't seem new to the job at all. Looks like he's in his early 20s and about 6 feet tall”

~“A fox in his early 20's? Got it! I'll try digging stuff up right away. Judging on where you are, he might be a college student, so I'll start there!”~

“He had a strange power as well. It made him glow purple, and I think it stopped bullets..”

~“...What!?”~ The excitement in the deer's voice jumped a bit, ~“That's so cool! ...I mean, I'll check that too, Watch”~

“Heheh, I thought that would get you. Don't know if he's friend or foe yet. Following him right now.”

~“You be careful out there! Should I call the others?”~

“No, I can handle it. Watchdog out.”

*********************************

His apartment wasn't too far now. Spirit would have gotten there sooner if not for the random wall taggers along the way. Just needed to put a good scare in them to have them running on home. It was so nice being on patrol. It gave Fawks a purpose again. Though somehow something felt odd. It made the fur on the back of his neck stand on end, was he being followed? Spirit would pause from time to time to try casually looking around but he never spotted anyone. Still, it was weird. He was close to getting back to his college apartment and he couldn't risk getting caught this early. The fox reached behind him to grab one of the three smoke pellets he had had in his belt, tossed it hard on the ground and vanished in the thick smoke!

*********************************

Watchdog's ear's perked up and his eyes darted about to try and catch which way the figure went. Watchdog had been noticed and was ready to defend himself. Eddy ran forward at the cloud that was quickly dissipating. He looked down into the street and saw a few open windows in the nearby buildings. “Damn!” The fox had gotten away. Eddy sighed, but figured he'd get another chance sooner or later. He'll talk with Buck again once they had more information. For now the fox didn't seem all -that- bad.. not yet anyway.

*********************************

-College life.. what a twist!-

Fawks was sprawled out on his bed the next morning. The annoying buzzing of his alarm clock finally making him moan and slam down on the off button to make it stop. “Uggh. I'm up!” The fox was relaxing in his room which was actually a small apartment just outside campus. Still a part of the school though so only students resided here. He had it decently furbished with posers along the walls, model figurines from games and comics sitting above his small book case which also doubled as a table, game case; just about anything he needed storage space for. His costume was tucked away neatly in a combination-locked suitcase under his bed and the insignia tag on his collar was switched out for a more common looking one. Fawks was sore for not having traveled by roof top for quite a while. Not to mention he had a bit of a musky scent about him from working up a sweat that night. He had to take a shower. Fawks kicked on the radio, stripped down in the bathroom and stepped into the soothing, warm water when the music switched to the news.

~“And in local news, last night it was reported that there is yet another vigilante running around on the streets at night”~

Fawks's ears shot up and he nearly slipped in the shower when the words hit him. “So soon!?” He thought and continued to listen.

~“Three men were arrested for robbing a convenience store last night. They were also charged for assault after beating a bystander that attempted to stop them. According to the victim of the attack, the men were stopped by a uniquely dressed fox wearing a mask. He went on record saying that he called himself Spirit Fox. The horse claimed that he also could glow purple, and..”~

Fawks stood naked with his mouth agape and dripping wet. “It's Spirit FORCE!! Dammit media! Now everyone is gonna be calling me that.” The fox looked a little annoyed and distraught at the same time. If they were gonna report on him, they should at least get the name right...

~“...Though the police at the scene believe that the hit to the back of the horse's head might have made the man see things, and that he is just lucky to be alive. It is unknown how much of this report on the fox is true, but I, for one, welcome a new hero to our streets. Only time will tell if he is really here to help us.”~

Fawks clicked the radio off. He knew it was silly to get upset over a name.. maybe it was even a good thing. Throws more people off his trail. Not that he ever hit the streets more than once with his SF name back in Broodwell... Not a night he cared to remember. The fox got dressed again. Loose fitting jeans, a loose fitting t-shirt with a silky button down shirt to go over that. It had a light floral, tropical pattern to help divert the eyes. Fawks picked his outfits carefully. Not wanting to show off his physique too much to throw off any potential detectives out there. He brushed his hair to make it nice and neat when he heard a knock at the door. Fawks figured it must be the new roommate he heard he was gonna be getting. About time too, with classes starting already.

The fox reached out and opened the door to find a brown and white colored equine male standing there with a large case in hand, and a bandage around his head. He smelled lightly of a fruit most likely from his body wash. He was tall with a medium frame with strong legs, might have been a track star back in his high school days. But the sight made the fox step back in surprise after taking a second to look him over. The fox staring into the stallions hazel colored eyes.

“...Well aren't you gonna let me in? Geez.. I'm hurt over here!” The colt walked right into the room with the fox to get a good look around. His eyes stopping on the fox who stood there with his mouth agape. “What? Never seen a cute stallion before?”

“C..Cody?” Fawks stopped himself too late with that one.

“Uhh.. have we met?” The horse blinked rather confused, eyes looking over every bit of the fox as if trying to recall something.

“Umm..” Fawks had to think quick! “The news! I heard you name on the news!” The fox blushed, heart pounding in his chest.

“Oh great.. I'm roommed with a spaz. Ah well..” Cody scanned the room again to see what the fox had setup, “A bit geeky too.. A Legend of Zelda poster? Really? Anyway, yes I was, um, just walking around at night when some creeps ran out of some store with stolen money. I had to do my duty to stop them!” He paused, as if to get some kind of recognition for his good deed, before continuing like it was some great adventure story, “I could have had them one on one, but they all piled on me! Then... this dream came by~” Cody looked like his mind drifted off to another planet. “So strong and... and that bulge...” Cody almost drooled before snapping out of it with an embarrassed blush, “It's.. it's rude to stare! Oh.. what was your name?”

“Heh.. I'm Fawks. Nice to meet you too, Cody..” Fawks grabbed the bag and sat it next to the other bed.. which the horse flopped down on with a thud and a soft groan of pain. This was going to be an interesting year. The fox looked as his watch and jumped after seeing the time. “Gotta get to class!”

*********************************

It was a few days later in the apartment of a currently off duty hero. His two roommates were out shopping for food, which gave Eddy a chance to just sit back and relax for a moment. Then right as he was about to fully enjoy the moment of quiet, his phone started to ring. He hoped that it was good news.

~“It's Buck again! Well, after some digging around.. I haven't found anything on a “Spirit Fox” or Spirit anything, anywhere else. I did however find out that about 30 foxes signed up for classes this semester. 10 of them moved here from other places, and moved here quite recently.”~

“That's great! Did you find anything else out?

~“Well none of them had anything interesting in their past. I did find out one guy was from a city that has its own hero group cleaning the streets! Very interesting stuff to read about! The team is led by Twilight Hound and-”~

“Buck, I know you probably had to do a lot of fishing, but what does this have..”

~“Shhhh! I'm getting there. Well, see, besides being a rather impressive hero, Twilight used to have a sidekick that isn't seen around anymore! He was a fox too, and is probably in his late teens to early 20's by now... but reports never said anything about him having super powers. From what I read, this fox has been taught by a very skilled master. Not someone you wanna fight unprepared.”~

“Fantastic, Buck! Talk with Hawkeye and see if she can watch this guy for a bit. Might not be the same fox, but it's worth a look in to. What's his name?”

~“Let's see... Oop, here we go. It's Fawks Silvarin. You know.. it's weird. It's like this guy just showed up one day. Might have been a name change, but now he shares the same last name as a guy who's company seems to own half of Broodwell. Conner Silvarin. He's a bit of a sleaze in public, but donates to just about every charity in the area. Might just be a coincidence though, since I can't find anything connecting them. Could also be a sign of wiped records... but that almost works out too well. This Conner guy is loaded, and those gadgets Twilight Hound carries don't seem cheap!”

“You're a regular truffle hound, Buck!”

~“I'm a deer!”~

“Sorry sorry. Just saying. Heheh.. Keep digging around for anything else. I'm sure a video is bound to pop up sooner or later.”

~“I hope so! I really wanna see those powerrrrrs...!”~

“Heheh.. settle down, Buck. We'll get to see this guy up close soon enough. Watchdog out.”

So yeah... I wrote this at the start of the year and it's an ongoing series! Thought I'd post them here to see if anyone else would want to read them. It's a superhero story! The rating will vary from general to adult depending on the episode, so be warned. x3

All characters are mine except for:

Watchdog/Eddy (c) https://www.furaffinity.net/user/thewatchdog
Wilk/Buck (c) https://www.furaffinity.net/user/wilkfiadh
