Simple workaround. Just say that the Cutie Mark Crusaders played a prank on her where they painted her flanks to cover up the cutie mark.

You don't have to always be in control. Just act like you are.

I used to forget whiskers or something.. now I forget cutie marks. You're not alone. :D
