this whole comic has been an interesting test though. its one of the first times i've done a whole piece of paper as a page, so its much bigger, which... im not sure is a good thing :l

If Celestia got the previous egg supplies in the same way with previous students, this would explain why Spike is so laid back compared to wild dragons. Just too much unicorn in his blood. ;P 'Tia might end up with a brood of Kirin at some point if she's been doing this to her students for her entire reign. ;)

Personally I'd prefer to see this along less cynical terms, mostly because I really hate "evil celestia" ideas. Maybe she just wants the eggs for more admission tests to her school, or maybe to use as trading items with dragons, or maybe she wants her own personal harem of dragons. I'd prefer to think that those are the reasons, after all if she was evil she wouldn't have stopped Spike from hiding the last egg.
Edit: Also, I wonder what the hatchling will be, I know that Twi was a Dragon during the sex and laying but I've seen stuff where Spike turns into a pony but his kids are still dragon/pony hybrids so maybe that will be the case here too.

You're right; if Celestia were plain evil, she wouldn't have let them keep the one egg they did keep. She's obviously not morally pure either. This isn't the kind of story that can include moral absolutism, as neither is the show. And the plot isn't intended to be a fairy tale of true love or a silly porn plot. It's a story about growing up slowly just like the show, and Celestia isn't the only adult who's not perfect. I really hope people just keep donating, because I've got a TON more plot up my sleeve.

wow, thank you! <3 i don't think i'm that good, though... or, at least, i don't have enough practice. TV's probably even harder than comics to write for. as for the sentiment, however, i agree. the show's writing has gotten so simplistic! it's turning into every other modern children's show. "can you find the RED APPLE? ............ that's right! there it is!" kinda thing. i love children's shows when the morals are simple (like they are in animal folk tales) but the plot is complex. like Fraggle Rock. but MLP? first and second seasons, it was. third, it's not. they're probably getting huge pressure from marketing to make it lowest common denominator now that it's popular. Hasbro has been taking the episodes off youtube lately and stuff.

I actually think Celestia made the right call. Twilight is very busy with both her friends and her studies. There is absolutely no way she could possibly have taken care of 5 kids. I think Celestia also took them away for that reason.

to those whom commented about the babies: yes, duh. i don't watch the show or anything even....but the two prequel pages kinda dictated that would happen (easy assumption).
~: Spike's tale looks a little overly fat in the middle-left panel. Idk if that's just how cub dragon tails are at that angle, or if it's caused by being at the corner of the image....other then that, I can honestly say you've improved a lot since your early comics. Especially since twi's essentially doing the entirety of them save the actual drawing now, Lol. Should spell-check your pages twice before posting, NOT AT 3AM EITHER >.>; since a couple of the older ones have some very obvious typos to awake/not-fapping-entranced peoples.
@others: It's also kinda obvious Celestia knows that spike has one of the eggs, and is allowing him to get away with hiding it....SHE WAS STANDING AT THE WINDOW FOR CHRIST'S SAKES.
Speculation: I wonder if it will be a male or a female hatchie? TwiSp Totally should've been at least temporarily Dwaggy-stuck, as the prequel manual warns can happen. Would've made for a good many interesting Arc options. Course, wth do I know about arcs lately...I can't even get a paragraph from my damn creative part of the brain down to paper before it vanishes permanently......I'm ashamed I have a 24 chapter book I wrote myself the the world will never get to see unless they happen to be in the right place at the right time to convince me to spare them a read-through.
