PLEASE NOTE, THIS SONG IS NOT A PART OF THE PRESENT ARC AND TAKES PLACE AT LEAST A YEAR IN THE FUTURE
So, we were giving a concert in Boston. Pretty well attended, and the audience appreciated us a lot.
Birch, Uncle Star, and I were at an autograph table, afterwards, when it happened. I heard a familiar voice.
"Hi."
I looked up. I could not believe my eyes. It was Susan Linsky. I froze. Then I forced myself to say something. "Uh...hi."
She seemed very reserved, unsure of herself, whether from embarrassment, shame, or what, I couldn't tell. I had to say something to break the silence.
"Uh...you know, you really shouldn't be here. They said we shouldn't see each other again."
"I know, but my foster parents live here, and frankly, I couldn't keep myself away. I hope you've been all right. And...and I'm sorry."
I choked. I barely got out the next words. "I'm sorry too."
And instant passed as we looked into each others' eyes. I could see tears begin to build up in her eyes, through my blurred vision.
Then, she took the signed picture, and left quickly, before either of us started doing and saying things we might regret, if we hadn't already.
I'm a bit more mature than I used to be. I finished the autograph session silently. But right afterwards, I excused myself, found a quiet place, and sobbed.
