"Well ratty-one, it's been a long time since I've seen one of your kind."
"Thanks, I guess, but since you know about my kind, I'm sure you know what they were tasked to do?"
"Oh yes, and I'm quite well aware that you know I'm not going to let you banish me just like that."
"You could just leave on your own. That would make things so much easier."
"Ah, I could, but you know what? There's no fun in that!" With those words, the ghoul lunged forward and took a swipe at the large creature that looked like an overgrown-rat. The rat-thing recoiled at the swipe and stared in disbelief momentarily at the ghoul.
"Is there ever any thing that just wants to get these things over peacefully? I mean, damn! This whole thing is so trite!" The rat-thing sprung back into action and lunged towards the ghoul, who was taken aback as the rat-thing dug his claws into his leathery and ancient flesh.
"Big talk from someone who's only recently just learned he's a Benadante!" The ghoul flexed his ancient muscles and threw his grappled arm back. The rat-thing, was flung away from the ghoul and he tumbled into a large patch of high clover.
"I'm not talking big, I'm just trying to resolve this conflict with common sense." The Benadante rose from the patch of clover and glared at the ghoul.
"And maybe you have a point. We can resolve this matter more amicably." The ghoul looked at his arm, with the deep claw marks. He rubbed the old flesh with his other hand, and the wound just melted away. "I really have better things to do, and honestly, I'm a six-hundred year-old-plus creature. What makes you think that a freshly realized Benadante can harm me significantly?"
"I don't know, but I thought I'd give it a good try!" From his position in the clover patch, the Benadante lunged again, but instead of launching himself at the ghoul's upper body, he flew at the creature's legs. The ghoul came down with a sickening thud as his head smashed against a protruding piece of stone on the ground. The Benadante, rolled away and stood over the creature.
"You know, that hurts, but it's not quite as bad as it looks." The ghoul groaned. It rose to it's feet and gave the Benadante a crazed look, or at least as best of a crazed look it could give with the right side of it's face broken open. the eye on that side of his head appeared loose in the socket. Some black liquid flecked with chunks of dirt matted to the injury. "But you forgot that as a creature of earth, I can do this!"
Dust rose up from the ghoul's feet and the various groundcover swayed madly in a wind that rapped out of nowhere. There was deep rumble and as quickly as the wind appeared, the ghoul sank into a large crack that had opened up in the field. The Benadante ran to the crag to pull the ghoul back and beat him additionally, but the opening sealed as he tumbled to the spot.
The wind died as the ghoul left. The Benadante rose to his feed and brushed the dust off himself.
"Well, I guess that means he's gone for the moment." The Benadante mused. As he said this his rat-like body morphed back into the form of a 16 year old boy, rough looking form the scuffle. He sighed and brushed off some more dust. He started to head home. The night was somewhat young, but his parents would not be pleased.
Not that they knew of his unusual abilities, but more because parents generally don't approve of their 16 year old sons staying out past dusk.
