I keep changing my fursona's species, parents' species, backstory, whether he lives in the modern world or a medieval fantasy, color scheme, and powers. I don't think I can ever settle on anything, but several of these creatures are known for being mercurial tricksters anyway.

My fursona always represents my mental and spiritual health.

The mouse was ALWAYS about pornsickness and thirstposting, not just low self-esteem. It was a somewhat cynical design, cute and natural as it looked and felt: The thought was literally "What's small enough to comfortably/plausibly fit inside numerous bodily organs and cavities of the widest array of potential mates' fursonas, but also cute enough I can stand to look at it?" and I settled on Hazel Dormouse, flipped around through other tiny mammals of similar design like House Mouse, Dwarf Rat, Tasmanian Pygmy Possum, and so on. Also, it was a reflection of low self-esteem brought about in part from mistreatment by others but mostly from failing to live up to my Christian morals and stay away from porn.

I made a great tanuki, though part of my draw to that species was just nostalgia for videogames and a juvenile giggle at the idea of having large testicles. Most canids being monogamous, that part fits me better than any known mustelid.

The strongest recurring theme required of any fursona for me is bat wings. I can do a human with bat wings, a cat with bat wings, a mouse with bat wings, mustelid with bat wings, fox with bat wings, etc.; if it doesn't have bat wings, it better have darker fur around its eyes like a raccoon or tanuki. That mask represents not just mischief like a cartoon burglar, but also superheroism; think about how the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Robin, and numerous others have that look going for them.

If the design doesn't have dark fur around the eyes and bat wings, it won't "stick" to me long no matter what else it has going on to represent me. I also need a long tail, but I don't seem particularly picky between a plain fuzzy tail, a bare scaly tail, a stegosaurus tail with thagomizers, a dipstick tail, or a striped tail (raccoon or skunk). I can't be a bear or a rabbit mostly because of the tail being too short!

You could also say you're "speciesfluid"? Or just a shapeshifter?

I've used both terms to describe myself for certain.

Reboot, relaunch, retcon, occasional remakes. Rebirth is another word that works, yeah. I also have a lot of characters who are based on me in some way, but not actually meant to literally be me so much as characters I can write because I relate to them so closely. Characters I put a lot of myself into, but go out of my way to make them not actually me.
