This was the first comic idea suggested by another person in the Datemouse series. Some of the others ranged from wild hypotheticals straight out of my head to thinly veiled allegories of my real dating experiences.

That crocodile is literally me 😛 There was a girl that I used to talk to, the closest thing to a girlfriend I ever had, who had had her perfectly straight and healthy wisdom teeth extracted for absolutely no reason. I could confirm this, because she showed me her x-ray from before the surgery. I got so incredibly pissed off and sad! 😫 Not that I rejected her for that, lol, I'm not that brainless, but it sure was super frustrating to see a perfectly functional set of my favorite teeth having been removed from the girl that I loved.

I honestly feel that way about tattoos and piercings - even basic earrings. Seeing a body I love needlessly altered for aesthetic reasons makes me a little sad inside.
And yeah, part of what was confusing about Nathan as a mouse was that he was never a "real" or "pure" mouse - more a mix of several animals embodying the idea of a "mouse" in a broad sense, including not just true rodents like rats and mice, but also the opossum, bat, pygmy possum, and so forth. (I've seen LOTS of fictional mouse characters who basically just have human teeth but with slightly longer upper incisors - it's almost universal, in fact)

Once I had a girlfriend whose mother was a dentist. She insisted that I should let her mother fix my teeth. I had never gone to a dentist before that, my teeth were out of alignment, but perfectly healthy and functional until that moment. That lady subjected me to the worst kind of torture and installed a ton of hardware in my mouth. I think she hated me because she didn't like me to be her daughter's boyfriend, could have been a racist thing. ( ･ั (oo) ･ั )
I was in constant pain. One day one of the springs broke and pierced the side of my cheek. and this was on the weekend and there were no dentist offices open. I had to go to the ER to have that wire removed. Every week I had to go back to her to have those things adjusted, which she did by twisting something in there with pliers.
I suffered those braces for three months until I could not take it anymore and ripped them off myself with a pair of regular mechanic pliers. The relationship was not working anyways.
She also drilled a hole in a tooth to pass one of the wires through. That hole continued to grow until the whole tooth was rotten and needed to be pulled out years later. Then the next one started to rot... I had never had tooth problems before if that, now, almost 40 years later, I still have problems that started from that dentist visit.

There's a really weird bias, seemingly stronger in the United States than most other nations, that teeth being straight and bright white is more important than them being strong and clean. I've had dentists complain about my tooth coloration (due to my love of coffee) or find them in basically perfect condition with no cavities or loss of enamel but be taken aback when I tell them how infrequently I brush and floss (once a day and slightly less than once every two weeks, respectively). Over-cleaning of teeth, skin, and hair actually causes damage...but lack of cleaning leads to infections, and of course a lot of these things vary heavily from one person to another due to other lifestyle choices like diet and work as well as genetics.
