Happy Mario Day, everyone!
Yes, I think for the first time ever I'm actually on time for Mario Day. But this year's Mario Day is a very special one, as it is also the 25th anniversary of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars! ...okay, so technically that was on March 9th, so I'm still a day off from that but what's the point in celebrating it the day of when Mario Day is the very next day?
But I digress. I actually didn't know about the anniversary until this morning, so what I intended to be nothing more then a small picture of Mario to celebrate and move on with my day turned into a frantic, all day event to get this all done in time. Why, you may ask? I could have kept my original plans and made better use of my day? True, but I wanted to give a proper shout out to what is among my favorite games of all time.
Were it not for Final Fantasy IX taking top place, Mario RPG would be my favorite RPG of all time. It's something I loved in my youth and played excessively. Renting it and playing it over and over. I'll always remember the excitement when the day came that I finally owned the game... it's something that's near and dear to me and even now, I still play it frequently. It's a wonderful gem of a game if ever there was a time for me to celebrate how much I love it, it was now.
I thought of adding in Peach and Bowser but honestly, I neither had the time nor a set idea of how to draw Bowser in my own style. Besides that though, even though they're integral to the game, the main trio of Mario, Geno and Mallow will always represent Mario RPG to me more then Bowser and Peach but I guess that's easily explained since Geno and Mallow only ever appeared in this game, thus making them more iconic. Plus i gave me an excuse to draw Geno whom I'm criminally overdue in drawing and bottom-heavy femboy Mallow... no regerts.
