The idea was that Rare was making Dinosaur Planet and Shigeru Miyamoto looked at the game one time during an E3 showing and noticed that Sabre kind of resembled his character Fox Mcloud from StarFox, and they went about implementing the IP into Dinosaur Planet which eventually turned out the way it did in StarFox Adventures since they were also dealing with a buyout from Microsoft at the time, so many of the plot points from the original game had to be cut out for time purposes.
