Phoenix was born into the world of Monsters and Ranchers and was a notably strong fighter. She took to discipline well and had no issue climbing ranks in combat, her martial arts style being strong and effective. That said, she had an unusual quirk that made her more valuable. Namely, that only monsters sporting the sub breed of Pixie, Mocchi, or Ogyo were female, yet she, a Gitan sub breed, was female. Her intense fighting skills made her quite valuable on top of this quirk. However, this quirk resulted in her life taking a drastic turn when she found that her Rancher intended to use her as a breeding hen for strong offspring that would be sold off to other ranchers. Breeding for a single strong offspring was not uncommon, but Phoenix couldn't believe that her life of disciplined combat was to be rewarded by an endless cycle of being ravaged by various males and birthing countless offspring. When this news reached her ears, her anger exploded out as she demolished her pen and severely beat her Rancher before escaping into the wilds.

She grew used to fighting for survival, her talents serving her well, but her heart eventually began to long for companionship. She would skirt the borders of ranches and lurk in training courses, wondering if she could ever go back to such a life.

One day, her travels on the outskirts of a ranch ran her face to face with a Centaur. He was large, stoic, and battle scarred, and her first action was to fight. However, this Centaur was not like the wild ones she fought who were wild and unpredictable. Instead, he was strong, focused, and could easily take a hit from her. He attacked only two times, but that was enough to render her unable to fight. Instead of a finishing blow, he helped her up, carrying her to the ranch she was looking at from afar. She struggled weakly, not wanting to be stuck in another abusive ranch, even as the Centaur bandaged her wounds and soothed her with a most delightful whistling that made her feathers stand on end. She eventually calmed and he told her his name, Nahum. She continued to listen to what he had to say to her and was surprised at what she heard.

Nahum had a very rough start to his life. Although a member of the coveted Centaur species, he was of the mysterious sub breed that was known as the Sniper. He was born into the care of a rancher who quickly set to work refining his combat skills and working to ensure his abilities were top of the line.

However, after years of combat and championships, he wondered what it was even for. His hide burned from the harsh training, but he was alone and suffering to be better and better, to never slack off or weaken, but it was for no real reason. He watched as his rancher grew wealthy and socialized off of the profits Nahum won while the Centaur was stuck in solitude. This reached a breaking point as he became outraged and smashed his barn before he escaped his rancher and made off into the desert of the Mandy area. There, he became renowned as a great danger, mercilessly attacking both domestic monsters and other wild ones until he was known as the most dangerous monster; "The Sniper who never misses".

One monster that changed all that was Lips, the Mocchi. During a training session, she encountered the Sniper and, after a rather ferocious fight, she actually beat him. The Sniper, battle scarred and weary, admitted that he was sick of living on his own, fighting tooth and nail just to survive. Lips suggested that he come see her rancher as he was very fair and was not against treating him with the respect he deserved. The Sniper agreed to at least give it a look and was, in fact, greeted by a kind person who gave him medical help, food, and shelter, yet asked nothing of him in return.

This act of kindness was all the Sniper wanted out of his life and chose to stay on the ranch as something of a guard. He obscured the scars he had on his chest by using his spear to carve a new one into it to signify his repentance for all the innocent monsters he'd beaten and killed, before taking on the name Nahum, old Hebrew for Comforter.

He told Phoenix that he spends his days patrolling the ranches of kind ranchers and dispensing knowledge to unruly young monsters of how harsh the wild life actually is, and that just because they are spoiled and don't get the ice cream they want because they are overweight doesn't mean that smashing their hut and running off is the ideal thing to do.

The barn that she was currently recovering in was where he was permitted to sleep, on the land of the kind rancher who had helped him recover. Nahum then told her that when she was well, she'd be allowed to leave. She eventually decided that she wanted to stay with him as he had a purpose to his fighting and abilities, and she also could not stand the thought of being alone again. Nahum accepted her companionship as the two now worked to help other troubled monsters.

Nahum is now a rather even tempered individual who knows that there is some aspect of goodness in all people and monsters, but utterly refuses to let a wicked deed go unpunished. He has a very long fuse for his temper and it takes quite a bit to actually make him mad, but should you succeed in doing so, he'll give you a beating most S class monsters would be hard pressed to match.

Phoenix is still prone to slipping into her heavily disciplined combat routines, but is learning how to loosen up. She often requests to hear Nahum whistle, either to sooth her to sleep or in other situations as it makes her feel something she hadn't quite felt before deep in her core. Nahum has admitted that he isn't sure what the specific whistling means, but he will often use it to stop Phoenix from being overly aggressive when encountering a monster... or to tease her.
