This is my Khenra Chronurgy Magic Wizard, Prince Whakato Veldan. He was a character I originally made for a friend's campaign, but that campaign fell through. But I was able to play him in a friend's Baldur's Gate Descent into Avernus game. The DM of this game drew this piece of art as a commission. I am really happy with the results

Short Backstory: Whakato grew up on the streets of Elturel as an orphan with his twin brother Noa. Whakato and Noa were barely surviving on the streets until an opportunity was presented to the both of them. The king of Elturel announced to his citizens that next year he would invite all orphans in the kingdom to his castle, whichever orphan proved themselves worthy to him he would adopt and they would be given the title of prince or princess. Whakato was already learning magic as a way to earn some money so he decided to focus on that, while Noa focused on improving his sword fighting skills. Whakato realized that the books he could afford wouldn't cut it so he would break into the local mage's academy and read the books in their restricted section. In this section he learned of a theoretical school of magic, Dunamancy. Dunamancy is the magic of time, space, entropy, and fate. Whakato thought if he could make this magic real it could give him a chance of winning that title. Whakato spent the next year experimenting and eventually was able to create some dunamantic spells. He decided to try to impress the king with his most impressive spell at the time. He broke into a jewelry shop and stole a pearl for his spell, Fortune's Favor. He cast the spell on the king and, because of the nature of the spell, the king thought he was being attacked and threw Whakato in the dungeon. But about an hour later the king came to his cell. The king told him that one of the orphans tried to assassinate him and Whakato's spell saved him. Because of this noble deed the king adopted Whakato and then he gained the title of Prince. Whakato tried to get the king to adopt his brother as well but he refused, he even tried to get Noa a knight title which the king also refused. The best he could do for Noa was give him a staff postion in the castle. His time as prince corrupted his perception of reality. Whakato was never really accepted by his new noble peers or his prior commoner peers. Whakato's personality changed from shy and quiet to loud and pompous. Whakato wants to prove that he is worthy of his title, but he doesn't want to forget where he came from either.
