Some More Simon Sketches
set default image size: small | medium | wide
I've been trying to get a little drawing done every day as practice, whether it be in an artbook or done digitally. Evidently I still can't draw, but that's kind of the whole point...can't get better unless I keep working at it. So that's the idea: keep practicing daily until eventually it evens out into something decent.

Anyway, a lot of what my old 'visual design' teacher taught has proven to be useful, so I'd might as well take a little more of the advice by not hiding away practice works in some dark corner that no one is ever allowed to see. So here's some of the 'best' of the lot, numbered according to the drawing order, SHOCKINGLY.

Still got ages to go and there's some glaring problem areas (that I'm already aware of, trust me), but come on...I haven't been practicing for long, and if you saw the omitted sketches you'd see I've at least improved since starting!

Oh, as a little note: I tried to keep cleanup to a minimum. So some errors are carried purely for preservation purposes (so I can look back and see what I'm doing wrong for next time).

I don't understand why you keep saying that you can't draw, maybe you even draw better than me :D Glad to see that you are progressing

Personally I really like these sketches and I look forward to seeing more of them, including any other pictures that you have drawn. Now, I would like to give you a friendly advice, if you allow me to. You will never enjoy drawing if you concentrate on improving or being the best artist around, b'cause drawing is not about that. Drawing is about expression, sharing, joy and experimenting, not about perfection. When you draw to be the best, you look at your drawings and you hate them b'cause you keep on seeing more and more imperfections, or details to fix, so you never have fun. Again, this is only a friendly advice.

Oh, don't worry, I'm not about to get offended by some friendly advice :)
I know that drawing with the goal of getting better at drawing isn't the most positive perspective, and I've been told so a couple of times, but I really cant help it. I have a habit of setting big projects to work towards, rather than just enjoying things on a smaller level.
Not that I don't get enjoyment out of it in the process, of course. I rather like #9, for example, despite the flaws. But if I can get to the right level to tackle the bigger projects in my head by practicing every day, that's going to end up being the biggest motivation for me.

(about Simon #11): The ice cream cone is a very nice touch.
